Snow, Sleet and Freezing Rain look to move into Nebraska by lunch time Thursday. As far as ice accumulations go I’m only looking for .10 to .25 inch of ice. Not too much to bring down trees and power lines. But enough to bring slick travel to the area. So please be careful if you’re traveling across the state. Snowfall, from about Ogallala to North Platte and Broken Bow north I am looking for about 1 to 4 inches. For the city of North Platte it’s going to be a tricky forecast Thursday. If we get more sleet/freezing rain vs. snow will be closer to 1 inch. If we get more snow, it might be closer to the 2 to 4 inch snowfall.
Eastern Nebraska Travel
The farther east you travel Thursday afternoon the more of a mess you will be getting into. Starting Thursday night, a major ice storm will take hold across Southeast Nebraska into the Falls City area. Up to a ½ inch of ice or more is possible. Tree and power line damage is possible in this area. North of Omaha up to 3-6 inches of snow is possible.
Breather Friday
Sunny and dry conditions take place on Friday with highs in the upper 20s.
Could It Get Any Colder Than Last Weekend ?
Sure why not? Saturday an arctic cold front is set to blast through the state, the good news and I’m hoping this stays like this, there won’t be much snow with this event. So there won’t be a Blizzard tied into this event like we had last weekend. Could we see an inch or two? Sure. But the main story will be that temperatures will be dropping like a rock on Saturday, combine with the strong winds, wind chills will be dangerously cold again. Sunday highs don’t get above zero for most of us and Sunday night temps will go to near -15 to 20 below.
Happy Winter
Thomas
