Winter Is Here!

Mostly Clear skies for Tuesday night, winds by midnight will switch to the south/southwest which should keep temperatures from not falling to much below zero. I am looking for a low in North Platte around 1 above. Wednesday looks ok with sunny skies and temperatures in the 20s. Since there’s no weather issues Wednesday you should go and see Kendra and I at Walmart at noon and Beatriz and Ava will be there at 1pm ringing the bell for the Salvation Army to help them get to $109,000 goal.

Thursday things get interesting here as a low pressure system swings into the central plains from the southwest. A mixed precipitation event of snow, sleet and freezing rain is possible, especially south of a North Platte/Grant line. The good news is I thing the brunt of this system goes to Eastern Nebraska were a major icing event is possible I-80 south into Southeastern Nebraska and accumulating snows are possible for the rest of Eastern Nebraska. So if you have any travel plans to Lincoln or Omaha Thursday, please be aware that travel could become tricky out that way. Back closer to home I am looking for about 1-3” of snow north of North Platte. South of there sleet and freezing rain will cut down on the totals. But it doesn’t take much ice to make a travel headache. So make sure you tune in Wednesday night for the latest forecast update.

After a break on Friday, Saturday another arctic surge comes into Nebraska. Saturday we have a chance of snow and the temperatures go the wrong way in a hurry. Saturday night’s lows look to be in the 8 to 14 below zero range with dangerously cold wind chills. Sunday, even though will have sunny skies…temperature will likely stay below zero.
