Winter Weather

Snow sleet and freezing rain will continue into the night time hours on Thursday. Snowfall accumulations of 1-3” (possibly 4-5” locally) in the North Platte, Ogallala and Broken Bow Areas. Head down towards Lexington, Kearney, Grand Island and Hastings about 3-6” of snow is expected. Over towards Lincoln and Omaha about 6-9” of snow is expected, lesser amounts if mixed precipitation becomes an issue, cutting down on snowfall totals. None the less the farther east you head, the more of a travel headache you will have. But not like travel will be a breeze around North Platte. Please use caution while traveling anywhere in the state of Nebraska Thursday night.

Ice will also be an issue as well. South of Hastings/Mccook up to a quarter to a half inch of ice is possible. In southeast Nebraska, a half inch of ice or more is possible.

After a brief break on Friday, snow and bitter cold return to Nebraska. Wind chills Saturday night may reach -40 below.
