Were catching a break Thursday afternoon across the area, showers and t-storms were scattered about overnight and into this morning. Some of which were severe and producing hail and heavy rain.

Additional T-Storms are expected to pop Thursday afternoon and into the early evening. We’re under a slight risk of severe weather from the storm prediction center in Norman OK. Some storms through this evening may contain large hail, damaging winds and possibly an isolated tornado through early. And like the last couple of nights as these T-Storms come together, will transition over to a heavy rain threat into the night time hours of Thursday.

What kind of pattern are we in?

Well like I explained on Tuesday night, we have a huge ridge of high pressure off to the west of us. In fact temperatures have been cooking in the desert southwest, 100-110 in Phoenix and Las Vegas. Every couple of hours a shortwave of energy comes over Wyoming and into the panhandle of Nebraska and kicks off showers and t-storms in an isolated supercell pattern as they move into central Nebraska. When they are apart they have the threat of producing large hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado. Then once they get to about Imperial/Curtis the storms all join together and form an MCS, otherwise known as a Mesoscale Convective Complex. Once they form together the threat transitions from a damaging wind and a tornado threat to a heavy rain and possibly a hail event as they slide off into Kansas.

Once again Thursday night we are expecting the same type of event, Please stay tuned to KNOP-TV News 2 and knopnews2.com for the latest weather updates.

Take care,
Thomas
