Today was a warm day as highs reached the middle 80’s to near 90, but lowering humidity made it feel a bit cooler. And our heatwave will be officially over beginning tomorrow.
The cool front that crossed the region this morning is now situated from extreme eastern Nebraska southward into central Kansas. This front helped lower the temperature a bit, and especially lowered humidity levels. But a second cool front is located from eastern North Dakota southward into southwestern South Dakota, then westward into northern Wyoming. This front is also moving southward toward Greater Nebraska, and will push through by tomorrow afternoon. Yet a third front located over south-central Canada will pass through Greater Nebraska during the overnight Saturday into Sunday morning.
What all this means is that we can expect relatively fair and pleasant weather through the entire weekend, with at least partly sunny skies, low humidity, and highs in the low 80's. Nights will be clear to partly cloudy with lows near 60.
However, as the second front presses through, there may be enough instability and moisture for a few isolated thunderstorms later Saturday into Saturday night. In addition, any storm that develops could be strong to severe, with damaging winds and large hail. The best chance of seeing thunderstorm activity will be over the southern and eastern parts of our viewing area, mainly from Imperial to North Platte to Broken Bow and southeast. But most areas will not see any activity, and most outdoor plans should not be adversely affected.
By Sunday, all three fronts should be sitting far enough to our south over Kansas so that the threat of storms over Greater Nebraska should be very small. If there is a stray storm on Sunday, it would likely occur over our southern counties. But the risk is not enough to mention in the forecast at this time.
The pleasant temperatures will continue into at least the beginning of next week. Enjoy the weekend!
