There may be some isolated thunderstorms tonight, but heat will be the big weather story over the weekend and beyond.
High pressure over Missouri is sending a southerly flow of warmer and increasingly humid air over Greater Nebraska, and it will tap some very hot air over the Southern Plains over the weekend sending our highs into the 90’s and close to the century mark. These highs coupled with moderate to high levels of humidity will raise the heat index by several degrees in some cases, especially over central and eastern areas where humidity levels will be highest. So the heat could get into the dangerous category so caution is advised if outside for any extended periods, Sunshine and breezy conditions will prevail both weekend days, but there could be a stray thunderstorm especially over northern areas later Saturday, and an isolated storm anywhere later Sunday.
Before the weekend, tonight will be partly cloudy and humid with isolated storms, one or two of which could be severe with hail and damaging winds. Lows will be in the middle 60’s.
The hot weather will continue perhaps until late next week, with isolated storm chances.
Mike
