A strong area of low presure will come out of Colorado and into Kansas through the weekend, bringing snow, wind and blizzard condtions through out the state. As of right now, 8 to 14 inches of snow is possible north of I-80 with the highest amounts up towards Ainsworth and O' Neil. South Of I-80 A good soild 4-8" is possible with locally higher amounts. For the city of North Platte by Sunday Afternoon I think we will be looking around 8 to 10 inches of snow.
Winds will be a major issue with this storm, at times winds may gust up to 50mph. This will crete blizzard conditons! Along with drifting snow. Travel starting Saturday afternoon will being to become dangerous with white out conditons! Please avoid travel Saturday Night across the area! This includes the city of North Platte. PLEASE DO NOT TRAVEL IN THE SANDHILLS! If you become stuck in the sandhills, help may not be able to arrive until the storm passes. Strong winds may create power outages in some areas as well
Please stay tuned to News 2 through out the weekend. Meteorologist Tara Moore will have updates on TV. Also please check with News 2 and the bottom of the screen during programming for the latest weather bulletions from the National Weather Service at the top and bottom of the hour. Area closings will be at the bottom of the screen as well. Also Knopnews2.com can be a great tool with News 2 trueview radar, and the latest closings across the area.
