More Light Snow

Some Light Snow Tuesday night will give way to clear skies Overnight Tuesday. Cold conditions will also move in, low temps will be at or slightly below zero. Wednesday and Christmas day look dry with highs in the 30s. Friday is our next chance of snow with the next storm system rolling in. That will throw a wrench into the warm-up until Sunday. Then Temperatures take off into the 40s and 50s with sunshine Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Take care, and have a great Christmas.

Monday, December 22, 2008

Some on and off light snow through out Monday night and Tuesday. Snowfall accumulations across most of the area should be on the order of an inch or less. 2-4 inches of snow is possible east of the tri-cites through Tuesday night. Another cold shot of air comes flying in for Tuesday night and Wednesday. Then temperatures start to re-bound just in-time for Christmas.

Brrr Another Cold Night!

Temps will fall to around 10 to 12 below zero Sunday night, the good thing is that there will be no wind so that’s at least some good news. During the overnight Monday temperatures (especially south and west of North Platte) will be on the slow but steady rebound.

Dry conditions for Monday, and then another chance of Snow for Tuesday, as of right now no snow accumulation is expected.

Winter Weather

Snow sleet and freezing rain will continue into the night time hours on Thursday. Snowfall accumulations of 1-3” (possibly 4-5” locally) in the North Platte, Ogallala and Broken Bow Areas. Head down towards Lexington, Kearney, Grand Island and Hastings about 3-6” of snow is expected. Over towards Lincoln and Omaha about 6-9” of snow is expected, lesser amounts if mixed precipitation becomes an issue, cutting down on snowfall totals. None the less the farther east you head, the more of a travel headache you will have. But not like travel will be a breeze around North Platte. Please use caution while traveling anywhere in the state of Nebraska Thursday night.

Ice will also be an issue as well. South of Hastings/Mccook up to a quarter to a half inch of ice is possible. In southeast Nebraska, a half inch of ice or more is possible.

After a brief break on Friday, snow and bitter cold return to Nebraska. Wind chills Saturday night may reach -40 below.

More Winter Weather On The Way.

For the latest warnings and advisories please look at the bottom right hand side of the weather page.

Snow, Sleet and Freezing Rain look to move into Nebraska by lunch time Thursday. As far as ice accumulations go I’m only looking for .10 to .25 inch of ice. Not too much to bring down trees and power lines. But enough to bring slick travel to the area. So please be careful if you’re traveling across the state. Snowfall, from about Ogallala to North Platte and Broken Bow north I am looking for about 1 to 4 inches. For the city of North Platte it’s going to be a tricky forecast Thursday. If we get more sleet/freezing rain vs. snow will be closer to 1 inch. If we get more snow, it might be closer to the 2 to 4 inch snowfall.

Eastern Nebraska Travel

The farther east you travel Thursday afternoon the more of a mess you will be getting into. Starting Thursday night, a major ice storm will take hold across Southeast Nebraska into the Falls City area. Up to a ½ inch of ice or more is possible. Tree and power line damage is possible in this area. North of Omaha up to 3-6 inches of snow is possible.

Breather Friday

Sunny and dry conditions take place on Friday with highs in the upper 20s.

Could It Get Any Colder Than Last Weekend ?

Sure why not? Saturday an arctic cold front is set to blast through the state, the good news and I’m hoping this stays like this, there won’t be much snow with this event. So there won’t be a Blizzard tied into this event like we had last weekend. Could we see an inch or two? Sure. But the main story will be that temperatures will be dropping like a rock on Saturday, combine with the strong winds, wind chills will be dangerously cold again. Sunday highs don’t get above zero for most of us and Sunday night temps will go to near -15 to 20 below.

Happy Winter

Winter Is Here!

Mostly Clear skies for Tuesday night, winds by midnight will switch to the south/southwest which should keep temperatures from not falling to much below zero. I am looking for a low in North Platte around 1 above. Wednesday looks ok with sunny skies and temperatures in the 20s. Since there’s no weather issues Wednesday you should go and see Kendra and I at Walmart at noon and Beatriz and Ava will be there at 1pm ringing the bell for the Salvation Army to help them get to $109,000 goal.

Thursday things get interesting here as a low pressure system swings into the central plains from the southwest. A mixed precipitation event of snow, sleet and freezing rain is possible, especially south of a North Platte/Grant line. The good news is I thing the brunt of this system goes to Eastern Nebraska were a major icing event is possible I-80 south into Southeastern Nebraska and accumulating snows are possible for the rest of Eastern Nebraska. So if you have any travel plans to Lincoln or Omaha Thursday, please be aware that travel could become tricky out that way. Back closer to home I am looking for about 1-3” of snow north of North Platte. South of there sleet and freezing rain will cut down on the totals. But it doesn’t take much ice to make a travel headache. So make sure you tune in Wednesday night for the latest forecast update.

After a break on Friday, Saturday another arctic surge comes into Nebraska. Saturday we have a chance of snow and the temperatures go the wrong way in a hurry. Saturday night’s lows look to be in the 8 to 14 below zero range with dangerously cold wind chills. Sunday, even though will have sunny skies…temperature will likely stay below zero.

Another Bitter Cold Night!

Temps will dip to around 5 to 12 below then start rising as we head towards the morning as clouds will be on the increase and the snow will arrive by Tuesday AM. Snowfall amounts look like about 1” in North Platte, less west and closer to 2” in Broken Bow/Lexington. If you’re headed towards Lincoln or Omaha, be prepared for slow travel and about 3-6 inches. Skies will clear out Tuesday night and temperatures will once again go below zero.

Wednesday we catch a break, then its back to the snow Thursday and early Friday. I had a few issues with the Wednesday Night to Friday AM timeframe of my forecast with timing issues on this storm system. One model (GEM) held it off until later Thursday and early Friday, while another model (GFS) was gun hoe to start bringing this in Wed Night and out of here Thursday Night. That said I’m going to go a slight chance of snow starting Wed Night and tapering off Friday AM. Snow fall amounts are tough to judge at this point. But snow accumulation is possible for the day time on Thursday. Please check back in with updates on the forecast.

Another arctic blast is looking to blow in here on the weekend. Highs will be in the single digits come Sunday.

4pm update…

Blizzard Warnings/Winter Weather Advisories have been cancelled as snow beings to exit stage east into Eastern Nebraska and Iowa. Let behind for us is the wind and the bitter cold temperatures. Lows Sunday Night will be -8/-12 Below for Southern and Southwestern Nebraska. -15/-18 Below for the I-80 Core door (including North Platte) and -20/-28 below for Northern Nebraska. Wind chill readings may range from 25 to 45 below zero. If you have to be outside, make sure to cover any expose skin as frost bite will take no time to occur.

Snowfall reports so far have been generally about 1 to 6 inches, but blowing and drifting snow has been reported. Please avoid rural/open country road travel on Sunday night.

Thomas

Ice Cold & Blizzard Conditions Effecting Nebraska

Good Sunday AM. Here is an update with the snow. I think final snow totals will be about 3 to 6 inches north of HWY 2. From about HWY 2 south to I-80, 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible. And south of I-80 up to an inch of snow is possible. Combine this snowfall with the strong north wind of 30mph and gusting up to 55mph. BLIZZARD CONDITIONS are likely as we continue into early Sunday Afternoon. Travel should be avoided in rural/open areas outside of North Platte/Ogallala. If you must travel Sunday please make sure you have a winter survival kit such as blankets, dry food (like crackers) snow shovel, bottle water and a red ribbon to tie to your car just in case you get stuck so help can find you quicker. Speaking of if you get stuck, if you get stuck in a rural/open area (or anywhere for that matter) STAY INSIDE YOUR CAR! And do not expose yourself to this harsh weather.

Bitter Cold!

Temperatures today will be falling all day Sunday and will remain below zero most of the day for most areas. The snow should wrap up at the latest by 3pm. But the cold air will not wrap up. A wind chill advisory goes into effect for Northern Nebraska tonight at 6pm. And for the tri-cites as well. Lows tonight will range form about 8 to 10 below in North Platte to 18-22 below in the Valentine area. Wind chill readings will range from 20 to 40 below most of the day and may approach 50 below in some areas tonight.

Stay warm and stay with KNOP-TV News 2 for the latest weather updates.

Blizzard Like 2nd Half Of The Weekend.

Saturday will be nice... (hey at least half your weekend is good). Mostly Sunny skies Saturday morning will becoming Partly Sunny in the afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 40s to the lower 50s. If you have any travel plans or any outdoor stuff to do, I would do it Saturday as things go down hill in a hurry on Saturday night.

Now on to the fun!

Snow will move in from the northwest and spread southeast Saturday Night into Sunday AM along with the cold air. Our high on Sunday should be reached during the AM and its going to be a free fall all day into the teens and by the afternoon the single digits. Winds will also be cooking as well, at times gusting up to 45mph creating blizzard conditions and dangerous wind chill values of 10 to 30 below by Sunday afternoon. Travel may become dangerous in rural/open areas outside of North Platte. If you have to travel on Sunday please make sure you have a winter survival kit in your car. That would include a snow shovel, dry food (such as crackers) and bottle water. Stay with you vehicle until help arrives. But I will say this (not to scare anyone) HWY 20 from about Cody/Kilgore west to the Nebraska/Wyoming state line. If you get stuck, help my not be able to come to you until the storm has passed.

Snowfall

Here’s what I have with snowfall on Sunday (All subject to change-check back in this weekend) … North of Hwy 2 and west of Hwy 83, I am looking for about 4-8 inches of snow. South of Hwy 2, North of I-80 and east of Hwy 83 I am looking for about 1-4” of snow and South of I-80 Only about an 1inch at best. For the city of North Platte, id say plan on at least 1-2 inches. As you can see this storm is not going to produce tons and tons of snow. But with the possible 45mph or higher wind gusts. That will create blizzard conditions. 1-3 foot snow drifts ( especially north of Hwy 2) at times and severe life threatening wind chill readings.

What You Can Do
I would just plan on staying put on Sunday, as snow, wind and dangerous wind chills will be going on. If you live in a rural area and you make a visit to North Plate on Sunday for shopping and church, do it Saturday. Ranchers and farmers should have livestock or animals in warm shelter by Saturday evening at the latest.

Meteorologist Tara Moore and I will be here through out the weekend monitoring the weather. Come on back to knopnews2.com for updates, you can always find News 2 trueview radar on here. And the latest warnings and advisories at the bottom right hand part of the weather page.

Take care,

Warm... Then ICE COLD!

Skies should clear on out during the overnight on Thursday. Lows will be in the teens in the Platte River Valley and 20s elsewhere. Upper 40s and Low 50s for highs on Friday and Saturday, then some of the coldest air of the winter season floods into Nebraska Saturday night. Sunday will be a bitter cold day with temperatures falling into the single digits Sunday Afternoon. Windy conditions and snowfall is also possible along with accumulations on Sunday. Sunday night into Monday were looking for temps to dip below zero (right now I am looking for about -5 here in North Platte and about -10/-12 in Valentine) along with dangerous wind chill readings along the lines of -30 to -45 below zero. This is dangerous cold! Frost bite could possibly happen in a short amount of time. Anyone who lives in rural areas outside of the North Platte and has to come into town to do any business such or grocery shopping might want to consider getting it done on Friday or Saturday. Ranchers may want to start considering moving there livestock or farm animals to warm shelter by Saturday Afternoon at the latest.

Continue to monitor the forecast as we head into Sunday. As I tweak the forecast for the cold temperatures and possible snow amounts.

Big Easy Snow

Yep that’s right it snow in New Orleans, in fact 1.3” of snow fell in the French core door making it a snowday for everyone in the big easy.

Some Snow On The Way…

I am not to wild about the snow Monday night, yes someone in the viewing area if there lucky might score 3 inches (especially in Northern Nebraska) but for the most part its just going to be an inch or two.

What were all going to notice is the return of bitter cold temperatures Monday night and gusty winds across the area, creating blowing snow and low visibility which may make driving tricky at times.

Winds through the overnight Monday into Tuesday AM will turn to a northerly direction and at times may gust to near 40mph.

If you like warm weather, don't look pass Tuesday Night

A brief warm up is on the way… but don’t get to use to it as colder air and snow will come crashing into Greater Nebraska starting Tuesday night. Monday night and Tuesday look quiet. Lows Monday night will be in the low to mid 20s with highs in the lower to mid 60s on Tuesday with sunshine.

The weather starts going down hill Tuesday night as the winds turn from the west to the north and the snow starts to fly. 1-3 inches of snow is possible north and west of Mullen while the rest of the area is only looking for an inch or less.

You will notice the chill beginning Tuesday night and definitely on Wednesday as high temps Wednesday struggle to get out of the 20s… Buddle up!

Take care,

Friday we bring in some light snow, but I don’t look for much. So no travel issues if you’re going to Lincoln on Friday for the Colorado/Nebraska Tilt. It will be chilly on Friday though with highs only in the 30s, and the colder conditions will continue into the weekend but it will be dry.

Lows Friday night will be in the upper teens, Saturday with sunny and mild conditions, most of us should make it into the mid to upper 50s. Sunday a weak cold front comes through but none of us will notice it, still sunny Sunday with temperatures near 50. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday look dry, sunny and mild with temperatures in the 50s for highs. The weather pattern turns colder right in time for thanksgiving with also a chance of snow.

Have a great weekend,

Light rain will change to light snow during the overnight Thursday and early Friday. A light accumulation my slick up some roads. Wind will be the bigger story as they will increase by dawn out of the northwest 30 to 40mph with higher gusts up to 65mph in open areas north and west of Paxton. Temperatures not going far Friday, only in the upper 30s and lower 40s.

Some More Snow On The Way...

Quiet conditions ahead for Wednesday night with partly cloudy skies the main rule. Lows will be in the low to mid 30s with a southwest wind 5-10. Thursday will start off the day with partly sunny skies then as we move into the day will see clouds on the increase. Highs still mild in the upper 50s and lower 60s with a southwest wind 5-15.

Thursday night, rain moves into the area at first, then its turns to a rain/snow mix and then eventually all snow. The good news out of all of this is little or no snow accumulation is likely with this system. The winds though will be an issue Thursday night and Friday and a wind advisory is likely. Highs will be chilly, only in the 30s.

Saturday is still looking dry for Maxwell (and in Hayes Center); cool though with temps in the 40s.

We Have It All...

Snow sleet and freezing rain, were going to have it all Monday Night and Early Tuesday. 3-6 inches of snow is possible southwest of North Platte. 1-3 Inches of snow is possible north and east of North Platte where freezing rain, sleet and snow will mix in, cutting down on snowfall accumulations. Roads will be snow covered and slick across the area through early Tuesday. Please use caution while traveling.

For Friday will start off the day with wind and snow and then go to partly sunny skies from southwest to northeast. Winds will still be an issue in the afternoon. Winds at times may gust up to 45 to 50mph through Friday afternoon. Lows for Thursday night will be in the mid to upper 20s, wind chill readings will be in the teens and highs for Friday will be in the 30s in the north were the snow pack is to lower to mid 40s for the rest of the area.

More snow on the way

A significant snowstorm is possible north of HWY 2 Wed Night/THU. Up to 8 Inches of snow is possible, a Winter Storm Watch maybe issued for areas north of HWY 2 by Wed AM. In addition, 3-6 inches of snow is possible between HWY 2 and 92 (Thedford/Stapleton). 1-3 inches of snow is possible between I-80 and HWY 92 (North Platte/Stapleton) South of I -80 (North Platte) only an Inch or Less. Wind is also an issue as well, by Wednesday night, winds may gust to near 45mph.

Iam not done yet, Wednesday afternoon severe weather is possible east of Broken Bow and Lexington. Please be on the look out for large hail and damaging winds if you will be traveling to Grand Island, Omaha and Lincoln.

Election Day Forecast

Hang on to your hats when you go out and vote, especially if you want to go after lunch. Temps Monday night will be in the 40s, Tuesday temperatures will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s. I believe that we will make it through most of Election Day dry.

Precipitation will roll in on Wednesday morning. Most of the day Wednesday looks wet with a possible rumble of thunder. Wednesday night starts the mess, not what the football coaches want to hear I know. I think for the Maxwell game, it’s going to be all rain, but in northern Nebraska (North Of HWY 2) it may go to all snow. And for Wednesday night and Thursday there could be some accumulating snow.

For the rest of the area, we may start seeing some snowflakes mix in Late Wednesday Night and early Thursday, but all and all I think this storm is a liquid event, especially south of I-80.

Wind with this storm will be the other story; at times starting Tuesday winds my gust to near 40mph through Thursday.

Good Morning…

Anywhere from about 1” (North Platte) to 4-5” (Custer County) has fallen. Yes short of the snow amounts that I was predicting on Wednesday. But I think the big story out of all this was the wind. Winds at times during the storm gusted near 60mph. Creating some power outages across the area and bringing down tree branches. Look for the snow and the wind to die down through Thursday Afternoon. Highs will be steady in the 30s.

Change Over Expected Soon

Rain is slowly changing over to snow in a northeast to southwest fashion. As of 3pm (CDT) the heaviest band of precipitation (Rain/Snow) was located from just west of O” Neil through Broken Bow and just east of North Platte. All rain will switch over to snow by sunset. Wednesday night will see a snow and a wind storm unfold; the heaviest snowfall totals look to be from Wheeler to just east of North Platte, in these areas up to 8-12 inches of snow is possible. For North Platte, looking at about 4-6 Inches and west of North Platte about 1-3 inches, but travel will be a nightmare everywhere.

Sorry Folks…

Busy day around the News 2 Forecast Center, including a Tornado Warning for Keith, Arthur and McPherson Counties, but here’s the deal with the snowstorm/blizzard/the October mistake some of you are calling. The earlier you switch over to all snow the more you will get. Safe bet get ready for at least 3-6 here in North Platte and maybe more. But Wednesday AM will be the Wild Card, on how much snow we will get.

Here comes winter…

A powerful storm system will be pushing through the region Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Tuesday just looks wet for most of us across the area; some rain may be heavy at times. But this will allow anyone (especially in our farm areas) to get storm preps done. That includes getting animals or livestock to shelter by Tuesday night, along with getting supplies that will last you til Friday. A change over of rain to snow will start off from Merriman Nebraska and move southeastward overnight Tuesday across the area, changing rain to snow in North Platte by Wednesday AM early. By Wednesday AM most of us will be dealing with all snow and wind, which may create near blizzard conditions. Tree limb and power line damage is also possible which may lead to power outages in some areas Wednesday. I am going to have a better idea of what’s going on for Wednesday on Tuesday. So please join me for News 2 at 6 and 10 for the latest on this early season winter storm.

Some Rain

Scattered rain showers will begin to move into the area for Thursday night. Not all of us will see the rain though. Lows will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Highs on Friday with sunshine will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Saturday looks great with highs in the mid to upper 70s. A weak cold front will push into the area Sunday, look for temperatures to cool down slightly.

Another cool night ahead…

Another cool night ahead…

Temps will fall down into the 28-30 degree range across south central and eastern Nebraska to low to mid 30s across northern and western Nebraska. Winds will turn to the southeast at about 5-10. Highs Thursday will be in the 60s with a little more cloud cover up towards the north as a shortwave passes through the region.

Friday night football looks great, and your weekend is looking excellent. The only flaw is a backdoor cold front pushing through the region on Sunday. Temps on Saturday may approach 80 on Saturday in some areas, 70s on Sunday.

Take care,
Thomas

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Rain moving out…

Rain will linger on across south-central and eastern Nebraska. Otherwise, North Platte and northwestward will see the rain ending and skies starting to clear out. Lows will dip to the 34-40 degree range.

Wednesday, well Wednesday through next Monday for that matter the sunshine will be around. Highs will be in the 50s on Wednesday with a breezy north wind. Then temperatures for the rest of the week will be on the rebound in the 60s and 70s.

Take care,
Thomas

Get Ready For A Cold Overnight…

Temps under clear skies and calm winds will fall into the low to mid 20s. Any plants outdoors will not survive.

Thomas

Cold Night Ahead

After anywhere from 1-3 inches of rain across the area this weekend. Skies clear out Monday night and temperatures will fall, probably one of the coldest nights so far this fall. Lows easily in the mid to upper 20s with a calm wind, a freeze warning is in effect for Dawson and Gosper counties in Nebraska, Sedgwick county in Colorado.

Tuesday, the first half of the day looks sunny and cold, temperatures though will rebound nicely into the lower 60s. We will have increasing clouds Tuesday Afternoon and a chance of rain across areas south of I-80 Tuesday Night.

Wednesday through the weekend look great with sunny skies, temperatures will rebound nicely thought the 60s and 70s.

Wet and maybe snowy?

Your weekend is looking wet, with a good chance of scattered showers and at times t-storms through early Sunday AM. Late Saturday night into early Sunday AM west of North Platte some snow flakes may mix in at times. Highs will have a major spread on Saturday with temps in the west ranging from 45-50 to 60-72 south and east. If you’re heading towards Omaha or Lincoln temps will be in the lower 80s.

Sunday everyone cools off with scattered rain showers early. Then next week drys out and warm up.

Have a good weekend,
Thomas

Dry for the next 24 hours at least...

Partly cloudy skies for Thursday night across the area, lows will be in the 40s. For your Friday I think most of us stay dry across the area, highs will be in the 60s north and west to 70s elsewhere. I am calling for about 70 in North Platte. Rain moves into the area Friday night and sticks around til Sunday AM with cooler temperatures, and windy conditions at times.

Thomas

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Snow haters breathe easier…

Before we get to the weekend, other than wind being a small problem over the next couple of days, temperatures will be reasonable in the upper 60s and lower through 70s through Saturday.

Saturday’s high temperature in North Platte 68
Saturday’s high temperature in Arthur 49

There’s a little issue between point A and point B don’t you think? That issue is a cold front and that will touch off some showers and a possible t-storm. Behind the system there will be a short window of precip on Sunday AM, and maybe some frozen precip mixed in, but for most of us its going to be a 100% liquid event. We dry out and cool off with temperatures in the upper 20s for Sunday night into Monday AM.

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

Looking like another wet weekend…

But we have a nice couple of fall days coming up across the area. Highs through Thursday will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Our next chance of precip looks to come on Friday in Northern Nebraska.

Saturday starts to bring some change into the area, highs will still be in the 60s across the area, but late in the afternoon rain will start to move into the region and Saturday night looks wet for most of us. I say most of us because some frozen precip or maybe even some snow will start to move into the panhandle. Sunday looks cool and wet with temperatures only in the 40s.

Take care,
Thomas

Let me explain this snow rumor.

Let me explain this snow rumor.

Don’t grab your snow shovels, I am just calling for a few snow flakes possibly mixed in with the rain on Saturday and Sunday as another slow moving storm system pulls through the area. Still about 5 days out and there will be some changes to this. But just wanted to give everyone the heads up on possibly seeing the first snow flakes of the year this upcoming weekend.

Before that, get ready for some nice October weather with sunshine and highs in the 70s Tuesday through Thursday.

Take care,
Thomas

Changes R a coming

Or for those of you who like proper English, how about Changes are coming.

Not for Saturday, I think we sneak out one more warm day with partly sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s and 80s. Southeast winds of 10-20mph. Clouds stream in for Saturday night and I think the western part of the KNOP viewing area starts getting hit with rain. Sunday is looking wet with highs only in the 70s. Might see some t-storms in the area, but most (if not all) should remain below severe limits.

Monday is going to be another wet day, along with Tuesday for the first part of the day. Then the rain pulls out. The big story I think and this goes along with the title, cooler temperatures for next week with highs only in the upper 60s and lower 70s Mon through Fri of next week.

And one more thing if your heading for the huskers game. Temps at 8pm Saturday will be in the lower 70s with partly cloudy skies. Go Big Red!

Have a great weekend!

More of the same (for another few days)

Wow another blog, and your saying maybe I should just copy and paste yesterday’s blog? Well in a sense for Friday and Saturday yes but Sunday there is some changes in store as a strong storm system pulls into the high plains. Rain is good bet starting Sunday especially in the afternoon. As of right now it is to early to call for severe weather, but that is a possibly.

Nice Rest Of The Week

Another clear night ahead with temperatures in the 40s, highs will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s Thursday, Friday and Saturday with sunshine, lows will be in the 40s and 50s.

Sunday and into early next week turns wet. In fact Sunday and Monday could be interesting around here as we’re in the warm sector of a storm system. That gets me a little concern this time of year. We could have some strong storms or possibly severe Sunday or Monday. Couple days out so stay tuned.

Another Cool Night Ahead!

10:30pm Update***

It looks like another cool night is ahead for our area for Tuesday overnight. Lows will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s with a light north wind.

Were back to the sunshine Wednesday pretty much right through Saturday. Highs will be ranging anywhere from mid 70s to lower 80s.

Sunday is when the changing start to come in, and when you start talking changes in October, something just tells you that cooler weather is on its way and that is what it is looking like. With rainy conditions a good bet starting Sunday highs will only be in the 60s through next Tuesday.

A frosty night ahead

A Frost Advisory has been issued for Dawson and Gosper Counties for Tuesday AM. This was issued by the Hastings Weather Office. As of right now I do not believe that the North Platte Weather Office is going to issue a Frost Advisory as they believe we are past the growing season. None the less, it’s going to get pretty cold tonight as temperatures will be dipping down into the lower 30s across the area, and I would not be surprised to see a few upper 20s in some of the favored cold spots. If you are still growing plants in your garden and you want to continue them for a few more weeks, good bet to cover them up or bring them indoors.

Thanks Maxwell!

Thank you, to all the Maxwell people who rolled out the red carpet for me on Friday night. Like always I have a great time there when I go, and it was a 56-14 roll for the Maxwell Wildcats!

For the weather, most of the weekend should be dry. Highs will be in the 80s and will have a chance of a storm late Saturday night and Sunday.

Go Huskers and Have a great weekend!

Another Hot Friday

A cold front will be sliding through the area on Friday. Temps still will be in the 90s across the SW part of the state. Behind the front still in the upper 80s, no precipitation is expected, only just a few clouds.

Temps on Saturday a touch cooler in the lower 80s, then a warm front comes back into the area. There is a 20% chance of a storm on Saturday late. Then again on Sunday as a cold front pushes through. Next week fall comes in, with temps in the 70s for highs, 40s and some nights 30s for lows.

Hot Weather Coming

Scattered showers and t-storms will move to the north and east of Broken Bow during the overnight Wednesday. Dry, sunny and hot conditions expected Thursday and Friday with temps in the low 90s southwest of North Platte. Upper 80s north and east of North Platte. Windy at times also with winds out of the south gusting to 30 on Thursday.

Thomas

Severe Weather

10:05pm Update

Severe T-Storm Warning is in effect for Custer County for areas south of Hwy 92. There a 3 storms in the county that are capable of producing penny size hail or greater. In fact one storm near Westerville produced golf ball size hail.

Thomas
6:25pm Update***

Storms are starting to form in southwest Nebraska, I think the best chance for storms in the KNOP-TV viewing area will be south of North Platte and Broken Bow. Temperatures will be in the 70s this evening. And most storms should stay below severe limits.

Taking The Frost Out

10:20pm Update***

Some clouds have pushed into the area; I’m taking frost out of the forecast for the Platte River Valley and Northern Nebraska. Lows though will still be in the 40s across the area.

Thomas

Frosty Night?

A much quieter day across the area on Tuesday with temperatures in the 70s and a few low 80s down towards Mccook. For Tuesday night were looking for clear skies and cool conditions, in fact we could see some patchy frost in the Platte River Valley and in Cherry County with lows in the upper 30s in these areas, 40s elsewhere.

The cold front that went through early Tuesday AM will comeback as a warm front Wednesday Afternoon. This will lead to a few scattered t-storms across the area. Highs will be warm in the mid 80s with breezy conditions at times, winds will be out of the southeast 10-20mph.

Thursday and Friday, summer will make a return. The forecast calls for sunshine and highs both days in the low 90s.

Sat/Sun and Mon calls for temps in the 80s with a slight chance of t-storms all days. So yes there is a chance of a storm during the husker game Saturday night VS Virginia Tech.

And finally an east coast bomb might happen this weekend. As a coastal low forms off the east coast or North Carolina and a tropical system which could be Tropical Storm or Hurricane Kyle by Thursday will move north and interact with Carolina storm system. Long story short it could be a rain and wet weekend for the east coast.

Take care,
Thomas

Severe Threat Mostly Done

10:45pm (CDT) Update

Severe weather for the most part is all done, scattered showers and t-storms will continue through the overnight Monday. Isolated chance that one might reach severe limits but for the most part the threats from the storms overnight Monday will be brief heavy rain and small pea size hail. Lows will be in the 50s with winds out of the NW around 20mph.

Tuesday, sunshine with a breezy northwest wind of 10-20mph. High’s on Tuesday will be in the upper 70s.

Wednesday, the cold front that came through Monday night will come back as a warm front. Highs will be in the 80s and there is also a slight chance of storms.

The heat returns on Thursday and Friday with highs close to 90 both days, we do though run a chance of a t-storm Friday and through the weekend. Saturday and Sunday highs cool down into the 80s.

Take care,
Thomas Kippen
9pm (CDT) update

A nice little thin line of Severe T-Storms have developed in Northern Arthur, Grant and Southwestern Cherry Counties. Needless to say I think this is starting to turn into a Hwy 92 (Arthur/Stapleton) and point’s north show for the night. Still some storms (possible strong ones) might effect areas south of HWY 92.

Join me tonight at 10pm.
Thomas
7:30pm (CDT) Update****

Strong to severe t-storms are expected to increase over the area through 9pm (CDT). So far most of the storms have been just nickel and penny hail producers and some indications of strong winds out by Sidney and Oshkosh. I think by about 7:30pm (MDT we might have a line of storms extending from about Merriman to just north of Lake McConaughy. Will see how that all unfolds; stay tuned to News 2 for the latest weather updates on KNOP-TV News 2 and Knopnews2.com

Thomas
Severe T-Storm watch is in effect for areas north and west of North Platte until 12am (CDT) 11am (MDT). Storms will be moving out of the panhandle and into Central Nebraska. Some storms maybe severe with large hail and damaging winds, severe t-storms sometimes produce tornados. Stay tuned to News 2 for the latest weather updates.

Thomas

Severe Weather Possible

Windy conditions will continue through the early evening hours Monday, especially east of Cozad. At times winds my gust to near 50mph, especially in open areas. The other weather story is possibly the severe storms. Isolated strong to severe storms are possible through 9pm Monday night. Then a more wide spread event into the overnight Monday, any storms may be capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, heavy rain and possibly an isolated tornado. Please stay tuned to KNOP-TV News 2 and Knopnews2.com for the latest severe weather information.

Tuesday, September 9, 2008

Cloud cover should lose its grip across the area Tuesday night. Ill call for party cloudy skies with lows in the 50s. Wednesday should be dry and if anyone is going to see a storm it’s going to be west of Big Springs. Highs should be around 80. Everyone gets into the rain act on Wednesday night, with a chance of T-Storms, lows Wednesday night will be in the 50s.

The cold front that will get hung up in KS, which will continue to bring us a chance of showers and T-Storms on Thursday and Friday, temperatures will be in the 70s for highs.

Wednesday, September 3, 2008

Another cool night is on tap for the area. Temps across most of the area fell into the 30s and 40s Wednesday AM. For Wednesday night look for temps to fall into the low to mid 40s with partly to mostly clear skies. Our next chance of rain does not arrive until Late Thursday night.

Thomas

Monday, August 25, 2008

I think for the most part 70% will stay dry Monday night, all though I can’t rule out a strong storm rolling through the area. I think our better chances of storms and some severe storms come on Tuesday as a strong cold front for this time of year pushes into Nebraska. T-Storms will move into the area after about 5pm, some storms maybe severe with large hail, damaging winds and possibly an isolated tornado. Lows Monday night will be in the 60s and highs Tuesday will be in the upper 80s and lower 90s. The other story will be the wind Tuesday, winds my gust as high as 35mph at times.

Behind the front is a cooler and less humid day for Wednesday. Highs will only be in the upper 70s. Thursday through Labor Day look great! With sunny skies, highs will be the 80s and lows will be 50s.

Take care,
Thomas

Thursday, August 14, 2008

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for Custer, Dawson, Frontier, Hayes, Gosper and Lincoln Counties through Friday AM. Showers and T-storms are expected to move back into the area Thursday afternoon. I totally can’t rule out an isolated severe storm. But I think the main threat from any storm will be the heavy rain fall that may lead to flash flooding.

The other noticeable thing Thursday will be the temperatures with mainly cloudy skies; they will only be in the 70s.

Thomas

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

One round of showers and t-storms for the overnight Wednesday will be moving out, the next will be moving in for Thursday during the early afternoon. Lows will be in the upper 50s and highs will be cooler than Wednesday’s highs, only in the 70s.

Thomas
Severe t-storms will continue to push through the area through Wednesday Night, some storms maybe severe with large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornados.

Thomas
Partly sunny and warm conditions Wednesday afternoon with highs in the mid to upper 80s, scattered t-storms are expected to develop and some maybe severe.

Thomas

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

Scattered strong to possibly even severe t-storms will continue through the overnight Tuesday. Lows will be in the upper 50s close to 60.

Thomas
Another round of storms are firing up across Central Nebraska. Thankfully though not as wide spread as last night, but a few storms will still remain capable of producing large hail and damaging winds.

Rainy times are ahead, as a cut off low moves into the central plains. A cut off low is a low pressure system that is cut off from the jet stream. Basically that means a chance of rain and sometimes heavy is possible through next week.

Temperatures will be cooler starting Thursday with highs only in the 70s and lows in the 50s.

Thomas

Monday, August 11, 2008

9:15pm Update, A line of severe t-storms continues to move thorough parts of the KNOP-TV News 2 viewing area, mainly east of HWY 83. This line of storms will be capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60mph and possibly penny size hail.

A Severe T-Storm Watch is in effect until 10pm (CDT) 9pm (MDT). Some storms tonight will be capable of producing large hail and damaging winds in excess of 60mph.

Thomas

Friday, August 8, 2008

Clouds are hanging tough Friday afternoon with temperatures on in the 70s in most locations. There is a few 80s near the South Dakota broader. Another chance of rain rolls back into the forecast later Friday night. Severe weather looks low at this point but heavy rain fall is a possibility. Which is not good news for the North Platte River as it is starting to fall. A Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice for the North Platte River.

Thomas

Thursday, August 7, 2008

Mostly clear with some patchy fog. Lows will be in the mid to upper 50s.
Other than a few isolated t-storms in Southwest Nebraska, look for partly cloudy skies with lows in the upper 50s. Friday highs will be in the 80s with partly sunny skies. Our next chance of T-Storms comes after about 8pm Friday night.

Thomas

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

Scattered T-Storms will become more numerous as we head into the night time hours. Some maybe severe (especially south of I-80) with large hail and damaging winds, the main threat will be heavy rain though.

Thomas

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

Most everyone will see a quiet Wednesday evening across Greater Nebraska. I did though to be on the safe side put a 20% chance of T-Storms for the evening time frame.

A better chance of T-Storms overnight, especially north of HWY 2, there is a slight chance that some storms maybe severe with heavy rain being the main threat.

Speaking of heavy rain, that’s what we don’t need in North Platte near the North Platte River. A Flood Warning remains in effect as Cody Park is under water by the boat dock. The river is expected to crest at 6.3” feet on Thursday. That’s if we don’t see anymore rain. Unfortunately, we do have a chance of rain in the forecast for Wednesday. Some storms maybe severe with large hail and damaging winds, but I think the main threat will be heavy rain.

Thomas

Monday, August 4, 2008

T-Storms will continue through the overnight on Monday, at times some maybe strong to severe. Lows will be low to mid 60s.

Thursday, July 31, 2008

Not to bad for the overnight on Thursday with clear skies and warm conditions, lows will be in the low to mid 60s with an east/southeast wind at about 5-15.

If you plan on giving the AC a break Thursday night, make sure it’s ready to go by about 10am on Friday as Temperatures will warm up quick. Highs will be in the low 100s south of I-80 and West of HWY 83, about 98 here in North Platte and upper 90s for North Central Nebraska.

A Heat Advisory is in effect for Sedgwick County Colorado from 1pm to 10pm (MDT). A Fire Weather Watch is in effect for areas south of I-80 and west of HWY 83. And Then will expand to the entire area on Saturday. The Combination of hot temps, strong winds and low Relative Humidity levels may pose high a fire danger.

Saturday, Sunday and Monday… HOT HOT HOT!!! With high’s ranging from 100-107, please make sure you limit your outdoor actives between 11am and 6pm. If you do have to be outside, make sure drink lots of water and wear light colored and loose fitting clothes.

Thomas
Another hot day on tap for the area Thursday afternoon, but its going to get even hotter as we head towards the weekend.

Thomas

Wednesday, July 30, 2008

It’s hot outside and its going to get even hotter! There is a chance of an isolated storm north of HWY 2, but most of the t-storm action and severe weather should remain in the Dakotas Wednesday night.

A cold front moves through the region on Thursday, but all it does is switch the winds to the NE and produce a few clouds. Reasons were not seeing any t-storms is due to warm air aloft. For T-Storms to develop you need warm air at the surface and cold air aloft. Highs Thursday will be in the 90s.

100 degree heat rolls in for Friday right Through Tuesday, Tuesday is also our next chance of Rain.

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Dry & warm conditions for overnight Tuesday, lows will be in the mid to upper 60s.

Thomas
After 1-2 inches of rain across parts of western Nebraska, a little quieter for our Tuesday night. There is still a chance of a t-storm tonight and most storms should remain below severe limits. Additionally, we could see some patchy fog and lows will be in the lower 60s with winds out of the SSE 5-15.

Wednesday the heat really gets turned up on our area as we sore into the mid to upper 90s. There is a chance of a storm late in the afternoon and evening on Wednesday night, mainly north of HWY 92.

Thursday through Sunday dangerous heat rolls into the area. Highs will be at or over 100 with our next slight chance of rain not coming until Sunday. Please make sure you’re checking up on the elderly and making sure your drinking plenty of water. Also wear light/colored loose fitting clothes.

Thomas
Other than a few scattered afternoon showers and t-storms, sunny skies will continue for most of area with highs in the 90s.

Thomas

Monday, July 28, 2008

Scattered showers and T-Storms for the overnight Monday, lows will be in the low to mid 60s with SE winds 5-10.

Thomas
Scattered T-Storms will continue to move through the area Monday night, severe weather is not forecasted, but one or two maybe capable of large hail and damaging winds. Lows Monday night will be in the upper 60s with winds out of the southeast 5-10.

This T-storm activity Monday night is associated with a system to our north and believe or not the left overs of Hurricane Dolly to the south. Now you know why it feels so tropical across the state.

Tuesday, once again we have a chance of T-Storms and it will be hot with highs in the 90s. And this will be the coolest day of the week, as a ridge of high pressure out west moves east and really cooks us starting Thursday. Highs Thursday through Sunday will be near or above 100 with little or no chance of rain until Monday.

Thomas
Sunny and hot conditions are expected Monday afternoon across our area. Widely scattered and if you get one thank your lucky stars T-Storms are possible, otherwise just hot with temperatures in the upper 90s to near 100.

Thomas

Friday, July 25, 2008

Scattered showers and t-storms will continue through the overnight on Friday. There could be some isolated severe storms at times. Lows will once again be warm in the mid to upper 60s.

Saturday will be once again hot with temperatures in the 90s. Once again we run the risk of t-storms; some could be severe as once again the area is highlighted under a slight risk for severe weather.

We do it all over again on Sunday.

Have a great weekend,
Thomas

Thursday, July 24, 2008

Showers and T-Storms a good bet Wednesday night, some storms maybe severe with large hail and damaging winds. Please stay tuned to KNOP-TV News 2 for the latest weather updates.

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

Scattered showers and t-storms currently in the panhandle may move into parts of the sandhills Tuesday night. Widespread severe weather is not expected, but a few storms may be capable of large hail and damaging winds in excess of 60mph. Lows Tuesday Night will once again be mild in the mid to upper 60s.

There is a better chance of T-Storms in our area on Wednesday, the storm prediction center has outline most of the KNOP-TV news 2 viewing in a slight risk of severe weather. The threat will be there for large hail and damaging winds especially after 4pm. Some of us escaped the heat Tuesday, not the case for Wednesday as all us will be in the 90s.

Thursday through Monday there is a chance of T-Storms each day. Highs will be in the 90s and lows in the 60s.

Monday, July 21, 2008

Mostly clear skies and warm conditions for the overnight. Lows will be in the mid to upper 60s with an east/southeast wind 5-15mph.
For the most part everyone will stay dry Monday night. It will be warm though with lows only in the mid to upper 60s. There is a very slim chance of T-Storm (less than 20%).

For Tuesday get ready for the heat and plan on it sticking around through the weekend. With highs in the 90s projected through Sunday at least.

There is also a slight chance of a storm again Tuesday night. A better chance of a storm late Wednesday into Thursday as a storm system rolls into the region, then Fri through Sunday there a slim chance of a storm.

Another typical July afternoon shaping up across the area, temperatures Monday afternoon will once again top out in the 90s and 100s.

There is a storm chance tonight, but it’s a slim to none chance. The better forcing (or lift) seems to be in Eastern Nebraska, with the Storm Prediction Center in Norman OK already talking about putting a watch out for the Omaha and Lincoln Areas.

In the tropics, Tropical Storm Dolly is in the southern Gulf Of Mexico and moving north and east and is projected to hit the south Texas coast as a Hurricane by mid-week. Cristobal In the Atlantic will be pushing off to sea.

Friday, July 18, 2008

For the most part dry conditions will continue for Friday evening, giving many of us a chance to dry out. Showers and T-storms will return to the picture tonight, some storms maybe severe, especially in Nebraska as T-storms roll out of South Dakota.

For the weekend, the heat will return and we will also have a chance of showers and t-storms through out the day and night on Saturday and Sunday.

The chance of T-storms continues through out next Monday through Friday. Highs will be in the 90s with lows in the 60s.

A busy day shaping up in the news 2 forecast center. Currently as of 2pm (CDT) here’s how the NWS watches and warnings are shaping up. First and foremost a flash flood warning is in effect for East Custer County until 4:15pm Tuesday. News 2 Trueview Radar has estimated 6 inches of rain east of the Westerville area, with an additional 1-2 inches possible across the warned area. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for Custer, Dawson, Frontier, Hayes, Gosper and Lincoln counties through Friday.

A cold front is currently located in northwest Nebraska and central South Dakota. That will be slowly sliding south into the state. Out ahead of the front, showers and t-storms will continue with some being capable of large hail and damaging winds, a brief tornado spin up is not out of the question either. Showers and t-storms will continue into Friday.

Very humid conditions will continue Thursday afternoon, temperatures in the 80s with dewpoints in the 70s.

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

Strong to severe t-storms will continue through the overnight, with warm and muggy low temps in the 60s and 70s. A Severe T-Storm watch remains in effect until 1am (CDT) 12am (MDT) for areas north of HWY 2.

Thomas
Scattered showers and t-storms are a pretty good bet for Wednesday night into the overnight. Some storms maybe severe, with threats being large hail, 60mph winds and heavy rain, and a brief tornado spin up is not out of the question.

Last night anywhere from 1 to 6 inches of rain fell in Central Nebraska. And with more rain on the way, the national weather service in Hastings has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Thursday and Friday. In fact some computer models indicated possibly up to 3 inches in some areas.

Strong fronts for this time of year will be pushing into the area on Thursday, T-storms and severe weather are likely. The chance of storms will continue into the weekend. Temperatures will be in the 90s on Thursday, 80s on Friday and then its back into the 90s for the weekend.

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Severe T-Storm watch is in effect for most for the KNOP viewing area until midnight (CDT) Tuesday. Showers & T-storms will be possible through the night. Some storms maybe severe with large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain that may lead to flash flooding, severe t-storms also do produce tornados with little or no warning. Lows Tuesday will only be in the upper 60s close to 70.

If you have any storm pictures from Monday night, please be sure to send them to weather@knoptv.com

Take care,
Thomas
I could say just look at the blog from Monday because that’s pretty much the same forecast. Temps Tuesday afternoon were pushing well into the 90s across most of the area, with Imperial pushing 100.

Scattered strong to severe t-storms are expected to fire in the late afternoon and early evening. Main threats from these storms will be large hail and damaging winds. An isolated brief tornado can not be ruled out as well.

If you have any storm pictures from Monday night, please be sure to send them to weather@knoptv.com

Take care,

Monday, July 14, 2008

Severe weather for the most part has ended across the area, will still have the chance of some scattered storms through the overnight with lows near 70. Highs will be well into the 90s Tuesday, there is a chance of storms in the sandhills late Tuesday afternoon and some of those could be severe.

Thomas
Very hot temperatures will continue Monday afternoon with 90s and 100s across the region. After 4pm (CDT) we run the risk of t-storms developing, especially along a stationary boundary running along Cherry and Brown counties. Some of these storms maybe severe with large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain, a brief tornado spin up is also possible. Scattered T-storms are expected through the overnight on Monday. Isolated severe t-storms are possible, but I think the main threat as we head into the overnight will be the heavy rain.

Take care,
Thomas

Friday, July 11, 2008

Clear skies and cool conditions have moved into the area. Lows overnight Friday will be in the low to mid 50s with winds out of the N 15-20+

Sunny and wonderful Saturday with highs in the 80s, if you have any outdoor plans Saturday night; make sure you bring the light jacket as lows will dip down into the mid to upper 40s.

Sunday we warm back up into the upper 80s and then into the 90s next week. Our next chance of rain does not come until Tuesday.

Have a great weekend everyone,
Thomas

Thursday, July 10, 2008

A warm night is ahead for our area, other than a slight chance for a storm in the panhandle most of us should stay dry with lows in the upper 60s and near 70.

Friday we have a noticeable temperature swing across the state. Highs will be in 80s in northern and northwestern Nebraska to 90s and close to 100 in southern and eastern Nebraska. A cold front will be cutting through the state and with the hot air out in front of it that will be the fuel for the fire for storms, some of those storms maybe severe with the main threats large hail and damaging winds.

Temps behind the front drop for the entire state; a beautiful weekend is on tap with comfortable temperatures and sunshine.

Take care,
Will continue with hot temperatures across the region Thursday afternoon, temperatures will be in the 90s with a south wind around 5-15.

Heads up in southwest Nebraska as one storm is trying to kick up in northeast Colorado. I think it’s going to have a tough time making into Nebraska as we have more stable air overhead.

Go jump in the pool and enjoy this hot summer afternoon.
Thomas

Wednesday, July 9, 2008

Scattered showers and t-storms will continue though out the overnight, especially north of HWY 2, other wise mainly clear skies for the rest of the area with lows in the low to mid 60s.

Thomas
There is an outside chance of a t-storm Wednesday night; the big story through Friday will be the hot weather. Highs both Thursday and Friday will be in the 90s and some areas close to 100 with lows in the 60s.

Our next chance of storms after Wednesday night comes Friday with a cold front moving through the area, behind the front temperatures fall back into the 80s for both Saturday and Sunday.

Tuesday, July 8, 2008

Scattered Showers and t-storms will move though Greater Nebraska through the overnight, lows will be in the upper 50s and lowers 60s with winds out of the southeast 5-10.

Thomas
Isolated t-storms are possible through out the night; lows will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s with winds out of the SE 5-10.

Thomas

Monday, July 7, 2008

T-Storms will be moving south into Kansas during the overnight Monday; skies will become partly cloudy with lows in the lower 60s.

Thomas
Scattered T-Storms are expected through Monday evening, some storms maybe severe especially east of North Platte. I think our best chances for storms will be before Midnight. Then for the overnight partly cloudy skies will take hold. Lows will be in low 60s with a variable wind early turning to the south overnight.

Another wave of low pressure moves in from Wyoming Tuesday afternoon. This will bring a chance of scattered t-storms to the panhandle in the afternoon and then to the rest of the area Tuesday evening. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s and lows will be in the upper 50s. Winds will be out the southeast 5-10.

Temperatures start to warm up on Wednesday with highs pushing 90. There will be a slight chance of storms moving in late on Wednesday and lingering on into Thursday morning. Thursday and Friday will be very hot with highs in the mid to upper 90s. Another storm system moves in for the weekend, which will bring us another chance of rain.

Take care,
Thomas
Severe storms are starting to fire around Hastings at this time. Additional T-Storms are expected to fire Monday afternoon with severe weather possible especially east of North Platte with the main threat damaging winds in excess of 60mph. Muggy conditions will continue this afternoon with highs in the 80s, but very uncomfortable outside with dewpoints in the 60s and 70s.

Thomas

Friday, July 4, 2008

A nice mild night for any of the firework parties that you maybe at. Temps will be in the 80s early and then slip back into the 70s.

Have a wonderful forth of July.
Thomas

Thursday, July 3, 2008

Hot conditions are getting ready to invade the state of Nebraska for the 4th of July. Highs will be in the 90s for North Platte and areas west, we run a really slim chance of a storm during the afternoon. Friday night looks great for fireworks, go out and shoot some off and remember safety first. Temps will be in the 60s and 70s with a SE wind 5-15.

Saturday, HOT! Temps should approach 100 over most of the area with 103 not out of the question south of Wallace, a great day to spend at the lake. There is a 20% chance of T-Storms towards Saturday evening.

Better chances of storms Sunday and Monday as a storm system will be moving through the central United States. I hope we get some rain out of this, because after Monday it’s looking very dry and hot.

I hope everyone has a wonderful 4th!
Thomas

Wednesday, July 2, 2008

Showers and T-Storms will continue into the overnight Wednesday, there is a chance of some storms going severe, but it looks like most of the severe weather for the overnight will stay in Kansas.

Thursday will bring a mix of sun and clouds and a chance of T-storms, all storms should remain below severe limits. Highs Thursday will be cooler, in the mid to upper 70s.

Friday the heat gets turned up for the 4th of July. Highs will be in the 90s with sunshine.

Take care,
Thomas
Showers and t-storms will move into the area Wednesday night. Some storms maybe capable of producing severe weather, the chance of storms continue into Thursday.

Thomas

Tuesday, July 1, 2008

Scattered showers and t-storms will continue through Wednesday night, most storms should remain below severe limits, a better chance of severe storms on Wednesday with some storms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain.

Temperatures on Wednesday will be in the 60s Tuesday night, highs on Wednesday will range from 76 in Valentine to Near 90 in North Platte.

Hot conditions are on the way for the entire state, Tuesday is July 1st and it is going to feel like it! 100+ temperatures not out of the question in southwest Nebraska to the panhandle. Elsewhere mid to upper 90s will be common. This will most likely be the hottest day of the year. Please use caution if you will be working out side during the afternoon Tuesday, wear light colored clothes and drink plenty of water.

A stray storm may pop up in the panhandle in the late afternoon, but otherwise most of the state will remain dry. There is a better chance on Tuesday night and on Wednesday of storms, some storms maybe severe.

We cool down a touch on Wednesday and Thursday, with a cold front slowly moving through the area. We will still run the chance of t-storms on those days also.

4th of July into the weekend it will be sunny and hot with a chance of t-storms.

Stay cool,
Thomas

Friday, June 27, 2008

A quiet weekend in store for the area, highs will be in the 80s with lows in the 50s.

Have a great weekend!

Thursday, June 26, 2008

Scattered t-storms will continue through the overnight Thursday, some storms maybe severe with large hail and damaging winds. Lows will be in the 60s and a much cooler day is on tap for Friday with highs only in the 80s. There is a 20% chance of a storm Friday afternoon.

Thomas

Wednesday, June 25, 2008

A severe t-storm watch is in effect for Blaine, Cherry, Grant, Hooker and Thomas counties until 4am (cdt) 3am (mdt). The storm prediction centers main concern through early Thursday AM is a storm complex moving out of northwest Nebraska and southwest South Dakota. Some of these storms maybe capable of producing large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain. Severe t-storms sometimes produce tornados with out warning.
Strong to severe t-storms are possible across greater Nebraska through the overnight Wednesday. Some storms maybe capable of producing large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain, in addition an isolated tornado can not be ruled out, especially along the stationary boundary near HWY 2. Lows Wednesday night will be in the mid to upper 60s. Highs will be hot on Thursday, maybe even approaching the 100 mark in Southwest Nebraska.

We also run the risk of another round of storms Thursday afternoon and night. I think there is a better chance for severe weather on Thursday versus Wednesday and a cold front pushes through the area. Once the front clears on through, it will cool down a touch and dry out with highs on Friday afternoon only in the 80s.

Saturday and Sunday look dry, with highs in the upper 80s. Our next chance of rain comes on Monday.

Take care,
Thomas

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Slight chance of some storms Tuesday night, lows will be in the 60s. There is a slight chance of severe weather from west of a line of Valentine to Ogallala. We keep the chance of storms in the forecast through possibly early Friday AM. Each day we have a slight chance of severe weather. We also turn up the heat. High will be in the low to mid 90s.

Thomas

Monday, June 23, 2008

Strong to severe t-storms will be moving through the area through 1am. Some could produce large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain.

At first I didn’t think the tornado threat would an issue tonight, but the NWS in Denver has put out a few tornado warning tonight in northeast Colorado. Just be alert though 1am, sometimes severe t-storms produce tornados with out little warning.

Stay tuned to KNOP-TV news for the latest weather updates

Thomas
T-storms are expected to develop as we head into the late afternoon on Monday. Some storms could be severe with large hail and damaging winds. Heavy rain is also possible later Monday night. Afternoon temperatures will be in the 80s.

Thomas

Friday, June 20, 2008

After a stormy Friday across some of the area, we still run the risk of a few storms overnight. Storms should remain below severe limits.

For the parade, its going to be sunny and hot with temps near 90. There is an outside chance of a t-storm.

Have a great weekend!
Thomas

Thursday, June 19, 2008

A few t-storms will move through the area overnight Thursday and into early Friday AM. Otherwise partly cloudy skies with lows in the upper 50s to low 60s.
Were catching a break Thursday afternoon across the area, showers and t-storms were scattered about overnight and into this morning. Some of which were severe and producing hail and heavy rain.

Additional T-Storms are expected to pop Thursday afternoon and into the early evening. We’re under a slight risk of severe weather from the storm prediction center in Norman OK. Some storms through this evening may contain large hail, damaging winds and possibly an isolated tornado through early. And like the last couple of nights as these T-Storms come together, will transition over to a heavy rain threat into the night time hours of Thursday.

What kind of pattern are we in?

Well like I explained on Tuesday night, we have a huge ridge of high pressure off to the west of us. In fact temperatures have been cooking in the desert southwest, 100-110 in Phoenix and Las Vegas. Every couple of hours a shortwave of energy comes over Wyoming and into the panhandle of Nebraska and kicks off showers and t-storms in an isolated supercell pattern as they move into central Nebraska. When they are apart they have the threat of producing large hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado. Then once they get to about Imperial/Curtis the storms all join together and form an MCS, otherwise known as a Mesoscale Convective Complex. Once they form together the threat transitions from a damaging wind and a tornado threat to a heavy rain and possibly a hail event as they slide off into Kansas.

Once again Thursday night we are expecting the same type of event, Please stay tuned to KNOP-TV News 2 and knopnews2.com for the latest weather updates.

Take care,
Thomas

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

Showers and t-storms are still possible during the overnight Wednesday. I still can’t rule out a few storms going to severe levels, but I think the main threat when the area of storms moves in from Wyoming and the Nebraska panhandle will be the heavy rainfall. Please use caution during the overnight if you will be traveling as some roads maybe come flooded or already are. It is very hard to spot flash flooding at night. Lows will be near 60 with a variable wind direction around 10mph.

Thursday, sorry folks, it looks like we have another round of t-storms moving into the area, some storms maybe strong to severe with highs in the low to mid 80s. Wind will be out of the southwest, and then turning to the southeast.

Friday through next week we have a slight chance of t-storms. The big story as we head through the weekend will be the hottest temperatures we have seen all year. In fact by Sunday I don’t think mid-90s are out of the question for some areas, especially south and west of North Platte.

Take care,
Thomas

Tuesday, June 17, 2008

Severe T-Storm watch is in effect until 12am central time. Strong to severe t-storms are possible through the overnight Tuesday. Some storms maybe capable of producing large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain that may lead to flash flooding, a tornado can’t be ruled out either.

Monday, June 16, 2008

A slight chance of t-storm overnight, lows will be in the mid 50s with winds out of the SE 5-10.
The evening hours on Monday should be quiet. Our next chance of T-Storms comes during the overnight Monday. Then we start having better chances of storms Tuesday and Wednesday. In fact we are out looked for a slight risk of severe weather on Tuesday and Wednesday. The main severe weather threats will be large hail, damaging winds, I can’t rule out a tornado but I think that threat is low. The Biggest threat will be heavy rain, so if you have had flooding problems over the last couple of weeks. Please keep an eye on the weather.

Friday, June 13, 2008

A warm weekend is in store for our area. Temperatures near 90 both Saturday and Sunday with a slight chance of a t-storm in the afternoon on Sunday. Everyone have fun at the concerts and stay safe. And if you have had to much to drink, don’t feel bad to turn your keys over.

Take care and have a wonderful weekend!
Thomas

Thursday, June 12, 2008

Other than a slim chance of a t-storm, most of us remain dry through Thursday evening. Temperatures Thursday afternoon will be in the 70s with a SW wind 5-15.

Join Kendra, Brett and I at the Wild West Arena for fight night this evening. If your headed there make sure you stop by and say hi to us and also make sure you bring something just a touch warmer as temps will fall into the 60s and maybe even the 50s after sunset.

Wednesday, June 11, 2008

The severe weather threat has moved to the east, there is a moderate threat of severe weather for the Omaha and Lincoln areas. Isolated tornados are possible in these areas.

For us we’re looking for party sunny skies with a stiff NW wind. Highs will be in the 70s.

Tuesday, June 10, 2008

A very slight chance of a t-storm, lows warm for the overnight in the 60s, 50s in northern NE. SE wind, gusty at times 15-25.

There is a chance of severe storms Tuesday, but for the KNOP-TV News 2 viewing area it’s a very small window, only about 1 to 4pm. After about 5pm early Tuesday evening, the severe weather show moves to Omaha and Lincoln were they are under a moderate risk of severe storms from the storm prediction center in Norman OK.

Weather becomes nice on Wed night and get use to that weather story because that will be it through Sunday. Temperatures will be approaching near 90 on Saturday and Sunday. Our next chance of rain does not come until Next Monday. The dry weather is prefect timing for the Nebraskaland Days Concerts.

Monday, June 9, 2008

A slight chance of t-storms overnight Monday, otherwise partly cloudy with low temps in the 50s, winds will be out of the south by daybreak 5-10.
There is a slight chance of T-storms Monday night across the area, it is only a 20% chance and no storms are expected to be severe. Lows tonight will be in the low to mid 50s with winds turning to the south at around 10.

Tuesday is looking sunny and warm; highs may approach 90 in the southern part of Nebraska. We’re looking for about 86 here in North Platte. There is another slight (20%) chance of showers and t-storms, there is a slight chance they may be severe. The chance of storms will continue into Tuesday night.

Wednesday, looks like the best set up for severe weather. A little bit cooler with highs near 80.

Thomas
A nice Monday to start off our work week, highs will be in the 70s and 80s with mainly a westerly wind.

There is a slight chance of a storm, mainly for areas north and west of Tryon.

Friday, June 6, 2008

A calm evening ahead, go out and enjoy. Temperatures will be in the 70s.

Thomas!

Thursday, June 5, 2008

Rain and a few rumbles of thunder will be wrapping up through the overnight Thursday. Low temps will be in the lower to middle 50s.
Severe weather has shifted to eastern Nebraska, we can still see scattered showers and t-storms, some storms may produce heavy rainfall.

Wednesday, June 4, 2008

The severe weather threat looks very low for the overnight; another round of showers and t-storms is possible by daybreak. This may pose more problems for the flooding issues.

Severe weather is once again likely again on Thursday, I know some of you folks did not want to hear that. But we are under a slight risk for most of the area, with a moderate risk to the east.

Severe Weather Striking Again

A Tornado Watch is in effect until 9:00 p.m. CDT. Storms will continue through the evening with the capability of producing large hail and damaging winds. There's also the possibility of torandic activity, especially south of Dunning.

Flash flooding could also result later Wednesday evening across the region. Drivers should use caution, and are strongly encouraged to turn around if they spot a flooding roadway.

As always, Stay Tuned to News 2 for the latest weather updates throughout the night.

Tuesday, June 3, 2008

Another round of showers and t-storms will move into the area overnight on Tuesday/early Wednesday AM. I think our severe weather is pretty much done. But there’s still an outside chance of severe weather through Wed AM. We are still under a slight risk of severe weather for the overnight.

We catch break in the late AM on Wednesday, then more storms move back into the area in the late afternoon Wednesday, once again we are under a slight risk of severe weather, so some of those storms could be severe.

Wednesday night into Thursday, another overnight event is expected with showers and t-storms. Once again some of those storms could be severe. And more storms are forecasted for Thursday. Severe storms are possible east of North Platte.

Friday I think the weather improves after some morning t-storms.
Showers and t-storms will continue through Tuesday evening. Some storm maybe severe with large hail greater than 3 quarters of an inch, damaging winds 60mph or greater, maybe an isolated tornado, but chances are low in that department. I think the bigger story will be the heavy rain fall with a complex of t-storms moving out of Colorado and into Nebraska and Kansas.
Partly sunny conditions will continue through Tuesday afternoon, t-storms are expected to develop west of HWY 83 and move east through the afternoon and early evening hours. Some storms maybe severe with large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain, severe t-storms sometimes produce tornados. So please be alert, especially west of HWY 83.

Thomas

Monday, June 2, 2008

Showers and T-Storms overnight on Tuesday, severe weather is possible but the chances are low, the biggest threat will be the heavy rain. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for SW Nebraska through Tuesday AM.

My apologies for no blog update on Thursday, it was very crazy in the forecast center Thursday afternoon and evening with by far the largest tornado outbreak of the year in Nebraska, and quite possible the Untied States.

The Kearney tornados and I say tornados because it looks like there were multiple tornado touchdowns inside the city of Kearney. The strongest on was rated an EF-2 tornado. That one touched down on the southside of town near I-80.

For all the latest storm reports and more information on the tornados that move through south and central Nebraska. Please visit these web sites.

For our weather on Friday night through Saturday, thankfully it looks quiet. Lows Friday night in the lower 50s, highs Saturday with bright sunshine will be in the 80s.

Sunday the warmth continues, but the storms return. Infact we our under a Slight Risk of severe weather for Sunday, be on the look out for possibly large hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado. Flooding may also be a concern with the wet ground; it wouldn’t take to much rain.

Take care,

Wednesday, May 28, 2008

Looking for storms to move into the area around Midnight, no severe weather is expected, but some storms maybe capable of producing heavy rain and some small hail.

Showers & T-Storms are expected to continue through Thursday AM, will get a sun break around midday. Then storms are expected to fire after 4pm. Some storms are expected to be severe. I think are severe weather window is between 4 and 10pm. Some storms will be capable of large hail, damaging winds an a isolated tornado.

Heavy rain will also be a threat, if you live in an area that has already flooded, please be aware of the possible heavy rain coming are way.

Cloudy skies, fog and some rain is in the forecast for the overnight Tuesday. Lows will be in the upper 40s with an light east wind.

Sunshine will try to make an effort to come back on Wednesday. But I think the clouds will win out more than anything. Highs will be in the upper 60s to near 70.

Warm weather returns on Thursday, but so do the storms with the threat of severe weather returning also. Highs will be in the mid-to upper 80s.

More wet weather on the way.

Where not looking at 10 inches of rain like we saw in some areas last Friday, but any rain will be insult to injury, especially in Dawson and Frontier counties. Scattered showers and a rumble of thunder possible, lows will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Highs Tuesday will be only in the 50s and some upper 40s north of HWY 2. Winds will be out of the northeast at 10-15.

Things start to clear out, dry out and cool off on Tuesday night. Patchy frost is a threat, especially areas north of HWY 92 and in low lying river valleys.

Wednesday and Thursday look dry with temps warming into the 70s on Wednesday and 80s on Thursday. Friday brings us another chance of storms.

Happy Memorial Day.
Thomas

Sunday, May 25, 2008

Saturday & Sunday were nice weather days, unfortunately though it looks like were not going to be able to make the holiday sweep for the nice weather. As clouds, rain and wind return on Memorial Day. Will have showers and t-storms moving through the area into Thursday morning, no severe weather is expected. But some heavy rain maybe.

Thursday in the afternoon and evening hours could be very interesting as a major severe weather event starts to take hold across the area. The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has put areas from Paxton along I-80 to Lexington and south in a moderate risk of severe weather, which means these areas, may see large hail and possible violent long track tornados. For the rest the area there is a slight risk of severe weather. Large hail and an isolated tornado are possible.

Thursday AM might be a good time to go over your tornado safety plans with you and your family(Especially if you live in the moderate risk area mention above). Parents if you have kids and they sit at home for a couple hours before you get home, let them know where to go and what to do if a Tornado Warning is issued for your area.

Jacque Harms will have an update at Midday and I will be in shortly after. Please check in with KNOP-TV News 2 through out the day as we will be running the latest watches and warnings at the bottom left hand side of the screen. Also we always have News 2 Trueview Radar always on knopnews2.com.

Take care and stay safe
Thomas

Friday maybe severe weather round 2, with a risk of large hail, damaging winds and tornados, the severe weather threat looks to linger into Saturday.

One other thing to note, we have made some changes to the ways you get watches and warnings at the bottom left hand side of the screen. We have gotten rid of the area map with the multiple colors on the screen. There will still be the radar which will be up at all times. At the top of the map there will be a ticker with the counties and the watch or warning, along with a crawl that has the latest information.

Take care,
