Wednesday Forecast (10/28)

Looking to be a wet day in the North Platte area on Wednesday. Highs will be in the mid 40s with winds out of the East 10 to 20mph... T-Storms are possible east of North Platte on Wednesday afternoon, some of these storms may become severe... Highs will be around 55-60 for the Broken Bow and Lexington Areas. Colder HWY 61 and west... And this is where we land on the snow topic...

Snow will spread into the Panhandle (West of Big Springs) on Wednesday Morning and Wednesday Afternoon. By Wednesday Afternoon im looking at a 9 alarm snowstorm taking place from Big Springs west. Travel maybe severely impacted by Wednesday Afternoon. Please be prepared for I-80 and I-76 to be possibly closed starting Early Wednesday afternoon.

Wednesday Night I am looking for the snow to start to spread into the Ogallala, Tryon, Mullen Areas and westward. And by Thursday AM im looking for the snow to start moving into the North Platte area.

As for snowfall totals by Friday AM, I am looking for 1 to 2 feet of snow in the Panhandle and Eastern Colorado, this includes the Big Springs, Lewellen, Chappel and Oshkosh areas. 6 to 12 inches of snow for Ogallala, Arthur, Tryon, Mullen, Hyannis and Western Cherry County. And about 2-5 inches for the North Platte area. This is all subject to change, depending on change over times, and more importanly, the track of the low! For example, a 30 to 40 mile eastward track would put North Platte in possibly double digit snowfall.

Stay tuned to News 2 on this winter storm...

If you have travel plans west of North Platte starting late Wednesday please be prepared for possible blizzard conditions.

Friday Weather

Friday not looking bad. But with the snow on the ground that will limit high temps... I'll go with a high temp around 45 with a NW wind around 5-10mph. The weekend, well we have seen better weekends. Will have high temps on Saturday in the low 50s with a slight chance of rain on Saturday Afternoon. A little bit of a stronger wave pushes through Saturday night and Sunday, which will bring us a better chance of rain or snow and cooler temps with highs only in the 40s on Sunday.

Take care

Interesting Weather Wednesday

Please check the right hand side of the weather page for the latest weather bulletions...

Its going to be a wet Wednesday morning with some areas of fog. Wednesday afternoon is when we start sliding towards winter. Temps will drop back into the 30s and rain will start mixing with snow. Tons and tons of questions remains with this system and how much snow we could possibly get. The big weather key Wednesday afternoon will be when we start mixing and changing over to snow. A quicker change over will means more snow, slower will mean less.

Stay tuned to News 2 and knopnews2.com for the latest weather updates...

Winter Weather Update

Please check the right side of the weather page for the latest winter weather warning/advisories.

Snow and Freezing Rain is a good bet for Northcentral Nebraska... By Wednesday AM up to 1-3" of snow is possible with locally higher amounts... Some icing is also possible, so if you're traveling on Hwys 92 and 2 East of Stapleton and Thedford and Hwys 183 and 283 North of Broken Bow and Ord. Please use extreme caution as roads will likely be snow and ice covered.

As for North Platte, looks like the heaviest precipation is over. Ice has added up on the trees, powerlines, bridges and overpasses... Freezing Drizzle will contiune through the overnight. Take it easy out and around North Platte and points south and east. Please use some caution on the bridges and overpasses.

Valentine only about 1/2 inch of snow ... The snow is expected to tapper to flurries by lunch time. But its still going to be cold outside with temps only in the 20s and windchill readings in the single digits and teens...

Here Comes The Snow

First snow of the year is on the way. For your day times hours on Friday it doesn't look to bad with partly sunny skies and temps in the 50s.

Friday night is where things get interesting. Snow will develop from north to south and continue into Saturday AM. 3-5" is possible just north of North Platte, Ogallala and Broken Bow. 2-4" of snow is possible for the North Platte area. Most of this snow will fall on the grassy surfaces, but if you're driving around North Platte Friday night. Please use caution, especially on bridges and overpasses.

Cold will be the big story this weekend as temps are only in the mid-20s on Saturday... Lower 30s Sunday. And we could have another winter weather mess moving in Sunday night into Monday.

Tuesday Forecast

It's going to be a hang on to your hats day, espeically in the afternoon... Highs will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s with a gusty northwest wind 15-25mph.

Wednesday looks great! And warm! Highs will be in the 70s. But thats the pick day of the week as cooler temps push in for Thursday, and then things get interesting for Friday highs as a stationary boundary sets up in Kansas. Will be on the cold side of things with highs in the 40s, so that will mean a rain/snow mix for us.
