Ground Hoggy Doggy

Join me Friday AM at 8am on 97.1 on fudge for breakfast. I'll be on with Russ Jones as well for the ground hoggy doggy shadow splash. Its looking good for Friday weatherwise, Temps will be in the upper 40s around splash time with sunshine. The only issue is with the bitter cold temperatures we have experienced over the last few days. The river has lots of ice on it, so the horse tank might make an appearance. Hope to see you at Burger King in the AM and on the river around 3.

The ground hoggy doggy shadow splash looks dry and mild with temps in the 40s. Ill be jumping in, hope to see you at 2:45pm at the South Platte River.

Some Light Snow…

Looking at some light snow for the overnight Monday across the area, accumulations should be less than an inch. Cold Cold Cold! The big story, lows overnight Monday and Tuesday morning will range from zero were there’s clouds and snow are, to 10 to 15 below with some clear skies. Wind Chills may approach 25 below in some areas.

Snow Coming To An End…

Snow Coming To An End…

The snow is moving out of the area which is good news, I do though that skies will clear out and will have to worry about the cold temperatures. Lows Monday night across the area will range from 5 to 15 below zero with wind chills possibly approaching 25 below north of HWY 2.

Tuesday will be sunny but it will be cold with highs only in the teens. Wednesday though the weekend we will be dry with highs in the 30s Wed and THU. 40s for the ground hoggy doggy shadow splash and 50s for the weekend. Hang in there improving weather is on the way.

Take care,
Thomas

Snow Ending For Now…Clearing Skies

Snow is moving south out of Nebraska into Kansas. Generally from what I saw the area picked up about 1-3 inches of snow Friday. Lows Friday night look to be in the single digits across most of the area, with wind chills around zero to 10 below. Will start off Saturday quiet then snow will start increasing from west to east during the afternoon and early evening Saturday. As of right now I am thinking 1-3” Saturday night and an additional 3-5” on Sunday and Sunday Night in North Platte bringing the total to 4-8 inches by Monday AM. North of North Platte and west of Stapleton, snow totals by Monday AM may approach a foot in some areas.

Take care,
Thomas

Spring Back To Winter…

Spring Back To Winter…

Snow has fallen across the area Friday Afternoon. Snow accumulations have ranged from 1-3 inches with an additional inch possible. Will catch a break Friday night into the first part of Saturday, then Saturday night into Sunday another round of snow will kick up. Anywhere from 6-12” of snow is possible through Sunday night.

The Warm Party Is Over

For those of you that thought this was going to be the weather for the rest of the winter you’re going to be sadly mistaken when you wake up Friday. A cold front will pass through overnight Thursday bringing down much colder air into the area. Not much in the way of sunshine Friday as temps will be steady in the 20s. Snow makes an appearance on Friday and lasts through the weekend. 3 to 6 inches of snow is possible by very early Monday for the North Platte area, with less south and more up to the northwest near Hyannis.

For the latest watches/warnings and advisories. Please check out the right hand side of the weather page.

Take care,
Thomas

One More Warm Day Then….

The cold air pours in for the day time on Friday. But lets enjoy the warm air for the day time on Thursday. Sunshine and warm temps in the 60s it can’t get any better. So lets enjoy!

Friday through the weekend… back to a winter reality

As stated above, a change is coming to our area, that in colder temperatures and snow. Snowfall accumulations are possible Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Ill have a better idea with snowfall number possibly late Thursday. So check back in and ill let you know. Cold conditions continue into the first part of next week, but we dry out Monday & Tuesday… then a chance of snow comes back into the forecast for next week.

The Spoiling Weather Continues

The “Spoiling” Weather as called by Kent Winder will continue through at least Thursday. Highs both days will be in the 60s with 70s possible in SW Nebraska on Wednesday with sunshine. The fire danger will still be high, especially south and west of North Platte. Please avoid burning during the warm part of the day.

A colder change is on the way. Jump on over to the weather webcast for a better explanation of that. But get ready for some cold and snow starting Friday into the weekend.

Take care,
Thomas

A Few Warm Dry Days Ahead

A couple warm days ahead for the area, it’s going to be hard to believe its January out there at times. Highs though Thursday will range from 60-70 through Thursday with lows in 20s with clear skies. The only thing is with the dry conditions and the low relative humidity levels may lead to a high fire risk. Please be careful and try to avoid burning in the heat of the afternoon.

A Cold Change will be coming though as we head into the weekend. Highs will only be in the 20s and 30s with lows in the single digits and teens once again with a chance of light snow.

Thomas

Warm & Windy Monday Afternoon

A warm day is setting up across the area. Highs Monday will make it into the 50s with no problem with maybe a few 60s near Grant and Imperial. It will be windy though with winds at times gusting to near 50mph. With the warm, windy and dry conditions. Fire danger is on the increase. Please avoid burning Monday afternoon with the high winds. The warm conditions are expected to last into Thursday with the high fire danger lasting into Wednesday.

Snow Ending & Thawing Beginning

The snow should wrap up by day break across Central and Western Nebraska. Lingering into Friday for Eastern Nebraska with about a fresh inch or two of snow cover. Warming temps for Friday into the 40s. Windy conditions for Friday night and Saturday but dry. Sunday through Wednesday of next week will be Un-January like weather. Sunday skies with temps in the 50s on Sunday, 60s on Monday and Tuesday. And we should sneak out another nice day temps in the 50s on Wednesday.

A Pattern Change?

Some of the longer range models are hinting at a pattern change for the end of next week. For the last couple of weeks we have had a trough out east and a ridge out west. Well that looks to change as we head into next Thursday and Friday. As a tough digs in the intermountain west and a ridge builds out east. This could pose a problem for us starting Thursday as the GFS model wants to bring a system through here. I am not sounding the alarms yet and I know Kendra would like Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday’s weather to last for the rest of the winter. And Coach Aub and Joe Swift don’t want a snowstorm for SPVA week. So I will continue to watch and see how that all pans out.

Thomas

Snow And Cold Continue

Cold conditions and on and off light snow will continue though Thursday afternoon. Accumulations will be on the little to none side. Snowfall already has ranged from about an inch and a half here at the station to near 3 inches in Ogallala. A cold night is ahead then the melting will begin on Friday with highs in the 40s.

More Snow

I’m going to push the 1 to 2 inch snowband east to include North Platte and HWY 83 west. Lows tonight will still be cold, near zero in North Platte, 5 to 15 below for north central Nebraska and single digits for southwest Nebraska. Wind chills at times may be near -20 below. If you have to be outside for any length of time, please make sure you buddle up.

Thomas

Freezing Cold…

Snow and cold for Wednesday night and Thursday, isn’t that what January is like though? As of right now I am looking for about a dusting to an inch for most of us, but west of Paxton I am looking for about 1 to 2 inches. Please use caution on the roads Wednesday night and Thursday AM.

Temperatures, yep that’s the other frozen story… as temperatures will go below zero for areas north and east of North Platte with wind chills ranging from 5- 25 below zero. Thursday will see on and off light snow with highs in the teens and 20s.

Friday through early next week shows improving conditions, the weekend is not looking to bad with highs in the 40s/50s sunny skies, and into 60s next week.

Hang in there,
Thomas

Snow & Cold Returns

Cold air will being to spill in late morning Wednesday across Central Nebraska. Will see our high temperature in North Platte of around 26 between 10am and Noon, then falling through out Wednesday afternoon with wind chills approaching zero by dinner time Wednesday and below zero temperature wise Wednesday night.

Expect to also see some light snow on and off Wednesday and Thursday AM. But little or snowfall accumulation is likely.

Improving conditions starting Friday, by Sunday and early next week, temperatures are looking to go into the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Cold Night

Temps will be in the single digits and teens for the overnight Monday. The good news is that the wind won’t be an issue as we head into the overnight, calming down from peak wind gusts in the 60s in some areas. Tuesday is a brief but well deserved warm up with highs in the 40s.

A strong cold shot of air comes in for Wednesday and Thursday. Highs will be in teens with lows near or below zero. There will also be a chance of light snow both days.

A weekend recovery is in store for us, as the sunshine and warmth returns to the area. highs will be in the 50s by the time we get to Saturday.

Windy, Cold And Snow

At times winds may gust to near 70mph especially in open areas. Some light snow has been falling in the sand hills. 1-3 inches is possible in localized areas. But with the strong winds, blizzard conditions may be possible.

Feels Like January

It is a bitter cold night, lows overnight Friday will be in the single digits with wind chills at or below zero. Nice rebound on Saturday and Sunday though with highs in the 40s. Another shot of snow comes into the forecast for Monday with cooler weather. A “brief” warm-up for Tuesday and the flood gates open from the north starting Wednesday.

Spring Time Back To Winter

Spring Time Back To Winter

After highs Thursday in the mid to upper 60s, temperatures will crash Friday afternoon back into the 20s and 30s with a stiff north wind at 20-30mph and at times gusting to 40. Light Snow showers are possible Friday afternoon but little or no snowfall accumulation is expected.

Weekend Not Looking To Bad

After a bone chilling start Saturday AM. Highs will rebound nicely into the 40s on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday though looks like the sunnier of the two days as we will have an upper level system pull through the central plains, producing some a few more clouds.

Major Arctic Chill Next Week

Starting possibly as early as Monday night, the flood gates from the arctic will open up and bitter cold air will spill in. Thankfully we don’t have snow on the ground like we did last time the Arctic Express visited us about a week and a half before Christmas, so that will take some of the bite of the chill. But still starting Tuesday I am looking for highs in the teens and 20s and lows around zero or slightly above. Some on and off light snow is possible during the mid week period of next week as well.

Take care,

Thomas

Enjoy A Nice Thursday…

Temps look to warm up to the upper 50s and lower 60s across the area with sunshine.

Enjoy Everyone,
Thomas

A Nice Warm Up!

Once we get through the light mixed precipitation event Wednesday night. We’re shaping up for a very nice day across Nebraska on Thursday. Highs will be in the 50s and 60s with sunshine.

It’s back to winter though on Friday, I think we see a lunch time high temperature of around 40, then it’s a tumble Friday afternoon with light snow, wind and near zero or slightly below zero wind chills. The arctic air doesn’t last long though. After a near zero low on Saturday AM, I am looking for highs in the 40s Saturday, and then in the 40s and 50s for Sunday and Monday.

Tuesday and Wednesday of next week a strong arctic surge comes rolling into the central plains. It’s going be a close call for Greater Nebraska. If this arctic surge hits us dead on, then we maybe looking at bitter cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills for the middle of next week. If the heart of the cold air goes east of us then will barely miss out on the bitter cold temperatures, please stay tuned for the latest forecast updates.

Take care,
Thomas

Some Light Mixed Precipitation…

Some light mixed precipitation will be moving through the area Tuesday night; it will not amount to much. Wednesday there will be a wide range of temperatures. Highs will range from the lower 50s in Southwest Nebraska to 30s and 40s elsewhere. A warm front pushes through the state Wednesday night. This may touch a light mixed precip event across northeast and north central Nebraska. But this warm front also opens the door for a very warm Thursday. Highs will be in the 50s and 60s with sunshine.

Another arctic push comes in for Friday, highs will be in the 30s and 40s late morning and early afternoon Friday. Then fall throughout the afternoon and down to the single digits Saturday AM.

A slow recovery of temperatures is expected through this up coming weekend.

The Blog Is Back...

Well I was on vacation for a week and a half, hence the reason why the blog was gone.

January Weather In Nebraska

9 times out of 10 uneventful, and that’s how this work week is going to end up. Warmer temperatures are on the way with highs in the mid to upper 50s Wednesday and Thursday followed by a cold blast Friday with a slight chance of snow. Temperatures rebound for the weekend.

Take care
Thomas
