Another Chilly Night

Another chilly night ahead across the area on Monday night, lows under clear skies and very light south winds will dip down into the low to mid 20s. Highs on Tuesday with sunshine will be in the low to mid 60s, and 70s make a return for Wednesday and the rest of the week.

Good Morning…

Anywhere from about 1” (North Platte) to 4-5” (Custer County) has fallen. Yes short of the snow amounts that I was predicting on Wednesday. But I think the big story out of all this was the wind. Winds at times during the storm gusted near 60mph. Creating some power outages across the area and bringing down tree branches. Look for the snow and the wind to die down through Thursday Afternoon. Highs will be steady in the 30s.

Change Over Expected Soon

Rain is slowly changing over to snow in a northeast to southwest fashion. As of 3pm (CDT) the heaviest band of precipitation (Rain/Snow) was located from just west of O” Neil through Broken Bow and just east of North Platte. All rain will switch over to snow by sunset. Wednesday night will see a snow and a wind storm unfold; the heaviest snowfall totals look to be from Wheeler to just east of North Platte, in these areas up to 8-12 inches of snow is possible. For North Platte, looking at about 4-6 Inches and west of North Platte about 1-3 inches, but travel will be a nightmare everywhere.

Sorry Folks…

Busy day around the News 2 Forecast Center, including a Tornado Warning for Keith, Arthur and McPherson Counties, but here’s the deal with the snowstorm/blizzard/the October mistake some of you are calling. The earlier you switch over to all snow the more you will get. Safe bet get ready for at least 3-6 here in North Platte and maybe more. But Wednesday AM will be the Wild Card, on how much snow we will get.

Take care,
Thomas

Here comes winter…

A powerful storm system will be pushing through the region Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Tuesday just looks wet for most of us across the area; some rain may be heavy at times. But this will allow anyone (especially in our farm areas) to get storm preps done. That includes getting animals or livestock to shelter by Tuesday night, along with getting supplies that will last you til Friday. A change over of rain to snow will start off from Merriman Nebraska and move southeastward overnight Tuesday across the area, changing rain to snow in North Platte by Wednesday AM early. By Wednesday AM most of us will be dealing with all snow and wind, which may create near blizzard conditions. Tree limb and power line damage is also possible which may lead to power outages in some areas Wednesday. I am going to have a better idea of what’s going on for Wednesday on Tuesday. So please join me for News 2 at 6 and 10 for the latest on this early season winter storm.

Some Rain

Scattered rain showers will begin to move into the area for Thursday night. Not all of us will see the rain though. Lows will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Highs on Friday with sunshine will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Saturday looks great with highs in the mid to upper 70s. A weak cold front will push into the area Sunday, look for temperatures to cool down slightly.

Another cool night ahead…

Another cool night ahead…

Temps will fall down into the 28-30 degree range across south central and eastern Nebraska to low to mid 30s across northern and western Nebraska. Winds will turn to the southeast at about 5-10. Highs Thursday will be in the 60s with a little more cloud cover up towards the north as a shortwave passes through the region.

Friday night football looks great, and your weekend is looking excellent. The only flaw is a backdoor cold front pushing through the region on Sunday. Temps on Saturday may approach 80 on Saturday in some areas, 70s on Sunday.

Take care,
Thomas

Rain moving out…

Rain will linger on across south-central and eastern Nebraska. Otherwise, North Platte and northwestward will see the rain ending and skies starting to clear out. Lows will dip to the 34-40 degree range.

Wednesday, well Wednesday through next Monday for that matter the sunshine will be around. Highs will be in the 50s on Wednesday with a breezy north wind. Then temperatures for the rest of the week will be on the rebound in the 60s and 70s.

Take care,
Thomas

Get Ready For A Cold Overnight…

Temps under clear skies and calm winds will fall into the low to mid 20s. Any plants outdoors will not survive.

Cold Night Ahead

After anywhere from 1-3 inches of rain across the area this weekend. Skies clear out Monday night and temperatures will fall, probably one of the coldest nights so far this fall. Lows easily in the mid to upper 20s with a calm wind, a freeze warning is in effect for Dawson and Gosper counties in Nebraska, Sedgwick county in Colorado.

Tuesday, the first half of the day looks sunny and cold, temperatures though will rebound nicely into the lower 60s. We will have increasing clouds Tuesday Afternoon and a chance of rain across areas south of I-80 Tuesday Night.

Wednesday through the weekend look great with sunny skies, temperatures will rebound nicely thought the 60s and 70s.

Wet and maybe snowy?

Your weekend is looking wet, with a good chance of scattered showers and at times t-storms through early Sunday AM. Late Saturday night into early Sunday AM west of North Platte some snow flakes may mix in at times. Highs will have a major spread on Saturday with temps in the west ranging from 45-50 to 60-72 south and east. If you’re heading towards Omaha or Lincoln temps will be in the lower 80s.

Sunday everyone cools off with scattered rain showers early. Then next week drys out and warm up.

Have a good weekend,
Thomas

Dry for the next 24 hours at least...

Partly cloudy skies for Thursday night across the area, lows will be in the 40s. For your Friday I think most of us stay dry across the area, highs will be in the 60s north and west to 70s elsewhere. I am calling for about 70 in North Platte. Rain moves into the area Friday night and sticks around til Sunday AM with cooler temperatures, and windy conditions at times.

Snow haters breathe easier…

Before we get to the weekend, other than wind being a small problem over the next couple of days, temperatures will be reasonable in the upper 60s and lower through 70s through Saturday.

Saturday’s high temperature in North Platte 68
Saturday’s high temperature in Arthur 49

There’s a little issue between point A and point B don’t you think? That issue is a cold front and that will touch off some showers and a possible t-storm. Behind the system there will be a short window of precip on Sunday AM, and maybe some frozen precip mixed in, but for most of us its going to be a 100% liquid event. We dry out and cool off with temperatures in the upper 20s for Sunday night into Monday AM.

Looking like another wet weekend…

But we have a nice couple of fall days coming up across the area. Highs through Thursday will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Our next chance of precip looks to come on Friday in Northern Nebraska.

Saturday starts to bring some change into the area, highs will still be in the 60s across the area, but late in the afternoon rain will start to move into the region and Saturday night looks wet for most of us. I say most of us because some frozen precip or maybe even some snow will start to move into the panhandle. Sunday looks cool and wet with temperatures only in the 40s.

Take care,
Thomas

Let me explain this snow rumor.

Let me explain this snow rumor.

Don’t grab your snow shovels, I am just calling for a few snow flakes possibly mixed in with the rain on Saturday and Sunday as another slow moving storm system pulls through the area. Still about 5 days out and there will be some changes to this. But just wanted to give everyone the heads up on possibly seeing the first snow flakes of the year this upcoming weekend.

Before that, get ready for some nice October weather with sunshine and highs in the 70s Tuesday through Thursday.

Take care,
Thomas

Changes R a coming

Or for those of you who like proper English, how about Changes are coming.

Not for Saturday, I think we sneak out one more warm day with partly sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s and 80s. Southeast winds of 10-20mph. Clouds stream in for Saturday night and I think the western part of the KNOP viewing area starts getting hit with rain. Sunday is looking wet with highs only in the 70s. Might see some t-storms in the area, but most (if not all) should remain below severe limits.

Monday is going to be another wet day, along with Tuesday for the first part of the day. Then the rain pulls out. The big story I think and this goes along with the title, cooler temperatures for next week with highs only in the upper 60s and lower 70s Mon through Fri of next week.

And one more thing if your heading for the huskers game. Temps at 8pm Saturday will be in the lower 70s with partly cloudy skies. Go Big Red!

Have a great weekend!

More of the same (for another few days)

Wow another blog, and your saying maybe I should just copy and paste yesterday’s blog? Well in a sense for Friday and Saturday yes but Sunday there is some changes in store as a strong storm system pulls into the high plains. Rain is good bet starting Sunday especially in the afternoon. As of right now it is to early to call for severe weather, but that is a possibly.

Nice Rest Of The Week

Another clear night ahead with temperatures in the 40s, highs will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s Thursday, Friday and Saturday with sunshine, lows will be in the 40s and 50s.

Sunday and into early next week turns wet. In fact Sunday and Monday could be interesting around here as we’re in the warm sector of a storm system. That gets me a little concern this time of year. We could have some strong storms or possibly severe Sunday or Monday. Couple days out so stay tuned.
