Scattered snow showers for the overnight across greater Nebraska, for most of us, accumulations will be less than 1 inch, but up near Valentine accumulations may range from 1-3 inches.
Lows tonight will be in the 20s with winds out of the northeast 5-10.
Monday, March 31, 2008
Look for another round of snow to move in Monday night, in fact counties bordering the South Dakota state line may pick up 1 to 3 inches of snow Monday night, on top of the 6-10 some of you picked up Monday AM. For the rest of us will see scattered snow showers with accumulations less than 1 inch. Lows will be in the 20s with winds out of the northeast 5-10.
Tuesday the sunshine returns, highs will be in the 40s and 50s across southern and southwest Nebraska. Where the snow is across north and northcentral Nebraska, temps will stay in the lower 40s. Winds will be out of the northeast 5-10mph.
Wednesday and Thursday we bring precipitation into the forecast, highs will be in the 50s both days, Thursday morning we may have snow mixing with the rain as lows will be in the lower 30s.
Friday Through the weekend we move into the express lane towards spring, highs will be in the 60s with sunshine and dry weather.

We have an active weekend shaping up across Greater Nebraska, but I do think you will be able to get outside at some points. Friday night looks to be quiet, but the winds will increase, especially towards the overnight hours, out of the southeast at 10-20mph, and at times gusting up to 30mph.
Saturday we will start off the day with party sunny skies, temperatures will warm up nicely. Highs will be around 55 for Broken Bow, 58 in North Platte and 65 for Imperial.
After about 1 or 2pm look for the chance of T-Storms to move in, it is a 20% chance though and a better chance west of North Platte. Winds will be a bit on the strong side, out of the south 15-25mph and at times gusting 40mph, especially in open areas.
Saturday night a steadier rain moves in, and there is a chance of T-Storms , winds will switch around to the north and they will still be a little on the strong side, 15-25 and at times gusting to 30-40mph. With the colder air moving in, rain will switch over to snow by day break Sunday.
Sunday, will have some sprinkles and flurries early, then will have dry conditions through the day time. Highs with cloudy conditions will only be in the 40s.
Another storm system will take aim at our area on Sunday night and Monday. There may be some accumulating snows across the area. Stay tuned to News 2 through out the weekend, we will keep you updated.

First off I have a correction to make, Monday night at 10pm, I said that we set a record snowfall of 7.1 inches at Lee Bird Field. Yes we did set a record snowfall for March 17th, but it wasn’t 7.1” of snow. The record daily snowfall was 5.4 inches of snow for the day, beating the old record of 3.4 set back on March 17th 1995. I am very sorry for the incorrect data.
The snowfall total for the snowfall event on 3/16 and 3/17 was 7.6 inches of snow at the Lee Bird Field. 8.5 inches reported inside the city of North Platte.
At the airport 2.2” fell on Sunday night before Midnight, 5.4” fell on the daytime on Monday.
Tuesday afternoon, we are going to start putting a dent in the snowfall. Sunny skies with high temps in the 40s, winds will be out of the west or northwest 5-15mph.

After 5-10 inches of snow Monday across the area, with lesser amounts north of HWY 92. Conditions will slowly start to improve this week, but for Monday night please use caution as water on the road ways will re-freeze.
We also have a slight chance of patchy freezing fog, lows will be in the low 20s Monday night, highs on Tuesday will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s.

Scattered rain and snow showers Friday evening, little or no snow fall accumulations are expected. Lows will be in the lower 20s. Highs on Saturday will be in the lower 40s with partly sunny skies.
That’s the easy part of the forecast. Here comes the fun part.
Saturday overnight, snow and some mixed precipitation moves into Greater Nebraska, this will be well after the midnight hour. The snow and mixed rain and snow continues into Sunday AM. Then on Sunday afternoon, areas across southern Nebraska will change over to all rain. As of right now I think that’s going to include the city of North Platte and everyone else along I-80, temperatures rise into the upper 30s.
Sunday night on into Monday, colder air moves into the area, this changes the rain or rain/snow mix turns backs to all snow. A heavy snow band may set up across portions of our area. Right now I am thinking Ogallala to Ainsworth. But that can all change like we found out on Friday. So please stay tuned and keep advised of the weather through out the weekend. As this has a potential to become a heavy snow producer in some parts of the KNOP viewing area.

A snow advisory is in effect for Western Cherry County until 6pm (MDT) Friday. 3 to 5 inches of snow is possible for the western part of the county. Please use caution while driving, especially on HWY 61 north of Hyannis. Please protect young livestock and move them into shelter.
For the rest of the area, expect a rain and rain and snow mix south of HWY 2 and along HWY 83 in Cherry County. Accumulations may approach 1 inch in Eastern Cherry County.

No afternoon update folk’s sorry, got a little side track.
Busy, is the one word to describe my day in the weather center. Between the fires and having a couple storms moving towards Nebraska that look to bring rain and snow. I am mainly going to focus on the Friday Storm.
Overnight Thursday, rain and snow will move into the area, and continue into early Friday AM. Areas south of HWY 92 will see temperatures rise above freezing after 8am/9am Friday, that would mean and all rain event for a couple hour. Friday around lunch time look for a rain and snow mix to move into the Platte River Valley and areas north of HWY 92 to change over to all snow. The entire area changes over to snow after 4pm or 5pm (CDT) and stays snow through early Saturday morning.
Snowfall accumulations looks like this, and this is by Midnight Saturday.
Platte River Valley (Including the cites of Ogallala, North Platte and Lexington)
Stapleton, Thedford, Tryon and Arthur- 1-3 INCHES
Cherry, Hooker, and Grant Counties- 2-4 INCHES With the longer period of snow.
Sunday and Monday brings another interesting weather maker into the area, please stay tuned on that storm.
Take care, and see you tonight for news 2 at 10pm

Partly cloudy skies Tuesday night with decreasing winds, lows will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Sunshine and mild temperatures on Thursday, highs will be in lower 50s near Thedford, will go 54 for North Platte, and 58 for Curtis and Imperial line. This will be the last mild and dry day as changes are on the way for Greater Nebraska.
Rain and snow moves in to the area on Thursday night, then changes over to all rain on Friday morning as temperatures will rise into the upper 30s, especially south of HWY 92. Then as cold air pushes into the area, Rain will change to snow, snowfall accumulation is possible across the area. I will have better details on that on Thursday.
First system pulls out Saturday morning with lingering snow showers, Saturday during the day looks nice with partly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 30s for highs, the second storm system that will affect the area will move in early Sunday morning with a rain and snow mix, were still 5 days out on this system, so stay tuned on how this storm system will pan out. But as of right now it looks like a rain/snow mix on Sunday turning to all snow on Monday, with winds possibly being an issue.

Another nice night on tap for Greater Nebraska for Tuesday night, with mainly clear skies, temperatures this evening will be in the 40s and 50s, and then for the overnight Tuesday, temperatures will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s.
Wednesday, we will have a cold front push through the area; no precipitation is expected with the passage of this front. The only thing it will do is shift the winds from the west to the northwest during the afternoon. Highs will still be nice for this time of year, in the lower 60s.
Thursday will still be dry, but I believe we will have more clouds than sun. Highs will be in the lower 50s. Thursday night starts a very active weather period that Greater Nebraska hasn’t seen in a while.
Let’s start with Thursday night & Friday
A Storm system is expected to move into eastern Colorado overnight Thursday into Friday morning; this will spread snow into Nebraska. So Friday morning expect snow, and then some areas (especially south of I-80) to rise above freezing (32F) which will change the snow over to rain. Then the rain will switch back over to snow Friday night and very early Saturday morning. Still a little tough to pin down snowfall accumulations, but please continue to watch, as I fine tune this forecast as we head through the end of the week.
Our next storm system takes aim at us on Sunday & Monday, as of right now this looks to be the stronger of the two storm systems that will affect us. I am a little concern with this storm system. Models have slowed this storm system down, and have put us on the cold side of this system, on the warm side of this system there may be a major severe weather outbreak from KS down to TX. This may set us up for a major snowfall event. Like the system on Friday, there will be some changes to the forecast. So please stay tuned to KNOP.

Mostly clear skies expected overnight Monday; lows will be in the mid to upper 20s, winds will be out of the west 5 to 10 mph. Tuesday looks to be the warm day of the week. Sunshine and highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s, the only draw back will be with the winds out of the west at 10-20 mph and the dry conditions, this could lead to a high fire danger. Please use caution if you will be burning on Tuesday.
Wednesday brings us a slight chance of rain, and Thursday looks dry. Mostly cloudy skies are taking over our weather Tuesday afternoon across greater Nebraska. News 2 Trueview radar is pick up some rain showers, but 99% of the rain is not even reaching the ground.
An area of mixed precipitation that is located in southwest South Dakota is starting to move to the south and east. This is associated with a cold front that will bring colder air into the region on Wednesday, along with windy conditions.
We also have snow on the way, in fact, 2 to 4 inches is possible north of HWY 2. Here in North Platte, we are looking for less than 1 inch. But with the windy conditions and the snow, this could lead to reduce visibilities starting Tuesday night. This also may lead to an advisory for the National Weather Service.
Please join me later on this afternoon and tonight on News 2. Thanks for stopping by.

Sorry folks
We have had some problems with the computer that I write these blogs on. So I am sorry for those of you that log on and read my blogs.
Welcome to March, we saw it all this weekend, record high temperatures on Saturday and snow and cold on Sunday. Monday wasn’t too bad with sunshine and highs more seasonal in the 40s.
The winds come back on Tuesday along with the mild temperatures, will have a strong west wind of 25 to 35 mph, at times winds may gust up to 40mph, especially in open areas, a wind advisory may be posted tomorrow afternoon. Highs will range from 51 in Broken Bow to 58 in Imperial.
Tuesday night the strong winds turn to the north, still at the same speed, but pouring in some much colder air and some snow. Some accumulations are possible, especially in Northern Nebraska. I will have a better handle on this Tuesday night at 6. And I will post another blog Tuesday during the mid afternoon hours, also if there is an advisory of some sort issued. We will run our News 2 trueview alert map at the top and bottom of the hour on KNOP-TV.
Thanks for logging on and watching KNOP-TV News 2.
